The humble L-bracket has served photographers faithfully for years, letting you flip a camera between landscape and portrait orientation on a tripod without wrestling the whole head into an awkward tilt. But the design has barely evolved, and Peak Design reckons it’s been overdue for a shake-up. Enter the Field Bracket, launched today via Kickstarter, which trades the rigid, one-shape-fits-all approach for something genuinely modular.
At its heart sits a camera-specific baseplate, CNC-machined from recycled aluminium to contour tightly to individual camera bodies. Crucially, it keeps access to battery compartments and ports clear — a chronic annoyance with older brackets that clamp over everything you need to reach mid-shoot. The plate is Arca-Swiss compatible, so it drops straight into the tripod heads most photographers already own.
The clever bit is the tool-free Field Latch mechanism. It lets you strip off the upright section in seconds, instantly turning the Field Bracket into a low-profile baseplate. Need the vertical wing back? Snap it on again. You can also reposition the upright to clear space for tethering cables — a thoughtful touch for studio and tethered workflows.
Peak Design founder and CEO Peter Dering summed up the philosophy neatly: “The best camera accessories disappear into your workflow until you need them. Instead of asking photographers to permanently attach functionality they only use some of the time, we built a system that can transform in seconds while remaining just as rigid and dependable as a traditional L-bracket.”
The Field Bracket also anchors an expandable ecosystem. There’s a new Beacon Finder Tag — billed as the first tracker designed to slot inside an Arca-compatible camera plate — so you can locate a misplaced rig. Swap the upright piece for the optional Cheese Plate and you get a lightweight rig peppered with 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 mounting points plus a cold shoe, ready for lights, mics, monitors and more. There’s also an optional Hand Strap for steadier handheld work.
The whole system integrates with Peak Design’s Capture clip and camera straps, and plays nicely with third-party gear too.

Pricing and availability: for the 17th time, Peak Design chose Kickstarter as its launchpad, and the campaign went live today, July 21, 2026, starting at US$125.
