Q Acoustics 3050c 5.1 with Q SUB100. A cinema bundle that isn't quite what it seems

Q Acoustics has built its reputation on squeezing real hi-fi manners out of budget-friendly speakers, so a full 5.1 cinema package built around the 3050c floorstanders and topped off with the Q SUB100 subwoofer sounds like exactly the kind of affordable home-theatre proposition worth getting excited about. On paper, it promises the cinematic goods without demanding a home-cinema budget.

There’s a catch, though — and it’s a big one for anyone reaching for their wallet. This particular combination isn’t actually something you can buy off the shelf.

Here’s what’s going on. Q Acoustics does sell a 5.1 package under the 3050c 5.1 name, and you’ll find it on the company’s own website as well as through the usual retailers. But that officially bundled system doesn’t ship with the Q SUB100. Instead, the pre-packaged version pairs the same speaker array with the 3060S subwoofer. The Q SUB100 variant that’s been doing the rounds in reviews was supplied to testers as a custom configuration — not a product line you can add to your basket.

It’s an easy trap to fall into. The two packages share an identical name, so a review praising the sonic chops of the “3050c 5.1” might well be describing a subwoofer you can’t get in that bundle. If low-end grunt is the make-or-break factor for your setup — and for movie duty it usually is — that distinction matters. A sub is not a bolt-on afterthought; it defines how a 5.1 system handles explosions, rumble and the sub-bass texture that makes a soundtrack feel physical rather than merely loud.

So what should a prospective buyer actually do with this information?

  • Check the subwoofer before you commit. If a listing or review references the Q SUB100, treat it as a custom build rather than the retail package.
  • The shipping bundle uses the 3060S. That’s the sub you’ll receive if you order the official 3050c 5.1 system as sold.
  • Match reviews to reality. Impressions gathered from the SUB100 setup won’t necessarily carry over to the 3060S-equipped version you can buy.

None of this is a knock on the 3050c speakers themselves, which remain a compelling foundation for an entry-level surround rig. It’s simply a reminder that in the world of pre-packaged AV systems, the name on the box doesn’t always tell the whole story — and the component doing the heavy lifting at the bottom of the frequency range deserves a second look before you buy.

If you want the SUB100 sound specifically, you’ll be sourcing that subwoofer separately. If you want the convenience of the ready-made bundle, expect the 3060S. Either way, know which one you’re getting.
