Samsung’s foldable ambitions just got a fresh dose of rumor fuel, and this time it’s all about codenames. A report out of Korea claims the company is lining up eight flagship devices for next year, four of them foldables: the Flip9, Fold9, Fold9 Ultra, and the intriguing TriFold 2.
Now a separate source has served up the internal codenames for Samsung’s 2027 foldable roster — and there are five of them: B9, H9, Q9A, Q9B, and Z9. That extra entry is where things get interesting.
Decoding the easy ones first. The Flip8 shipped under the codename B8, which makes B9 an obvious match for the Flip9. So much for that earlier whisper claiming the clamshell had been axed — it appears alive and well. Likewise, the Fold8 was internally known as H8, so H9 slots neatly into place as the Fold9. No cryptography degree required there.
The tricky pair is Q9A and Q9B. Two devices sharing a base codename with different suffixes strongly hints at siblings — think a standard and an Ultra variant, or two members of the same book-style foldable family. It’s the kind of naming convention Samsung has leaned on before when a single line splits into multiple tiers.
Then there’s the odd one out: Z9. It doesn’t map cleanly onto any of the codenames Samsung has used for its existing foldables, which is precisely why it’s got leak-watchers talking. Chatter around this mystery entry points to something more exotic than another clamshell or book fold — possibly a rollable-style device rather than a conventional crease-and-hinge affair.
Here’s the important caveat: none of this has come from Samsung. Every one of these codenames stems from leaks and reports, not an official roadmap. Samsung hasn’t confirmed the lineup, the naming, or even that all five will make it to shelves. Codenames also have a habit of appearing long before hardware does, so the presence of a placeholder is no guarantee of a shipping product.
What we can say is that the pattern lines up. Two rumor streams now agree that Samsung is expanding its foldable catalogue rather than trimming it, and the B9-and-H9 continuity strongly suggests the Flip and Fold franchises carry on as expected. The real question marks hang over the Q9 duo and, above all, Z9 — the entry that could turn out to be Samsung’s genuine surprise if the more ambitious rumors hold up.
As always with codename leaks, treat the details as pencil sketches rather than finished blueprints. Specs, prices, and final model names remain unconfirmed, and Samsung is more than capable of reshuffling the deck before anything reaches production.
