Point-and-shoot photography rarely feels like an adventure, but TOEM 2 is out to change that. The sequel to Something We Made’s beloved black-and-white puzzle-explorer once again hands you a camera and sends you wandering through a hand-crafted world, snapping photos to solve little riddles and help the oddball characters you meet along the way.

The original TOEM won hearts with its serene pace, its charming monochrome look, and the simple joy of framing a shot just right. The follow-up keeps that spirit intact but sharpens the presentation. This time the environments are fully 3D, dressed up in a 2D-like visual style — a neat trick that preserves the flat, storybook charm of the first game while giving you room to circle around subjects, hunt for hidden angles, and compose your pictures with more freedom.

If you missed the first outing, the formula is refreshingly low-stress. There are no fail states to sweat over, no timers ticking down. You explore, you observe, and you photograph. NPCs ask for specific snapshots, and it’s up to you to spot the right moment or the cleverly concealed detail. It’s photography as a gentle scavenger hunt, and it’s exactly the kind of cozy palate-cleanser that stands out in a release calendar crammed with things trying to kill you.

Publishing duties are shared between Something We Made and popagenda, and the game is bound for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Mark your calendar for September 29, 2026, when TOEM 2 rolls out across all three platforms simultaneously — no waiting around for a straggling port.

Pricing hasn’t been confirmed ahead of launch, but the multi-platform, same-day rollout suggests the developer wants as many shutterbugs on board as possible from day one. The Switch inclusion in particular feels like a natural fit; there’s something perfect about a portable console for a game built entirely around the impulse to stop, look around, and capture the world one frame at a time.

For anyone who found the first TOEM’s black-and-white world quietly magical, the move to 3D spaces is the headline change worth watching. Real depth means real photographic decisions — where to stand, what to include, what to leave just out of frame. That’s the kind of subtle upgrade that could turn a lovely little game into a genuinely rewarding one.

TOEM 2 arrives September 29, 2026 on PS5, Switch, and Steam.
