7Artisans 10mm f/2.5 AF Max Fisheye. Cheap thrills for full-frame shooters
SHARE

Autofocus fisheye lenses for full-frame cameras have always been a rare, expensive breed. 7Artisans just shook that up with the 10mm f/2.5 AF Max Fisheye, a genuinely wide-angle spectacle machine that undercuts the competition by a wide margin. It went on sale on August 26, 2026, priced at US$449.

That price is the headline, but the optics deserve attention too. The lens delivers a dramatic 185-degree diagonal field of view, pushing past the usual 180-degree fisheye boundary to bend the whole world into the frame — and then some. This is a lens built for skateboarding sequences, astro panoramas, cramped interiors and any situation where you want the horizon to curl.

Under the hood sits an optical formula of 11 elements in 8 groups, paired with a nine-bladed aperture diaphragm for rounded sunstars and pleasant out-of-focus rendering. The f/2.5 maximum aperture keeps it usable in dim conditions, which matters for a fisheye often pointed at night skies.

Close focus is where things get playful. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.15 meters (5.9 inches), you can shove the front element right up against a subject and still nail focus, exaggerating perspective for those bulging, in-your-face compositions that make fisheyes so much fun.

Despite the ambitious spec sheet, 7Artisans kept things portable. The lens tips the scales at just 504 grams (approximately 1.1 lbs), light enough to carry alongside your regular kit without a second thought.

The build extends beyond glass and metal barrel. 7Artisans has added:

  • A weather-sealing gasket at the metal mount to help keep dust and moisture at bay
  • A USB-C port for firmware updates, so autofocus behavior can be refined over time

That USB-C port is a telling detail. Autofocus performance from third-party manufacturers has historically been the weak point, and shipping a lens that can be updated in the field suggests 7Artisans is serious about keeping it in step with camera bodies.

Mount options cover the three most relevant full-frame ecosystems: the lens is available in Sony E, Nikon Z, and L mount, meaning Sony, Nikon and L-Mount Alliance shooters can all get in on the action.

Fisheye lenses are a niche, and autofocus ones even more so. But at US$449 for a weather-sealed, 185-degree, f/2.5 full-frame optic, 7Artisans has made the niche a lot more accessible. If you have ever eyed a fisheye and balked at the price, this one removes most of the excuses.
