Samsung’s Now Brief — the AI-powered daily digest that surfaces the information it thinks you need at any given moment — is branching out from calendars, weather and commute times into your evenings on the couch. The latest One UI 9 Beta 7 teaches the feature a new trick: Netflix recommendations, delivered straight into your personalized briefing.
If you’ve used Now Brief since its debut alongside the Galaxy S25 family, you know the premise. It’s Samsung’s attempt to make a phone feel less like a tool you poke at and more like an assistant that anticipates you. Morning cards nudge you about traffic and the day’s agenda; evening cards wind things down. Adding streaming suggestions to that evening rhythm is a logical, if slightly cheeky, expansion — your phone deciding not just when you should leave for work, but what you should be watching once you get home.
The integration lands in One UI 9 Beta 7, which means it’s still very much a work-in-progress feature exclusive to beta testers rather than something rolling out to the general public just yet. Betas being betas, the exact behavior — how recommendations are chosen, how prominently they appear, whether you can dismiss the whole category — may shift before any stable release.
What’s clear is the direction of travel. Samsung has been steadily wiring third-party services into its AI layer, and Netflix is about as mainstream a partner as you can pick for a recommendation engine. For anyone who already lives inside the Galaxy ecosystem and pays for a Netflix subscription, having the two talk to each other removes a small but real bit of friction: no more staring at the app’s endless carousel wondering what to press play on.
There are the usual questions worth keeping an eye on. Recommendation features live or die on relevance — a Now Brief card pushing a title you’d never touch is just clutter, and clutter is the fastest way to get a feature ignored. There’s also the matter of scope: right now this is Netflix and Netflix alone, so if your viewing life is spread across half a dozen services, one platform’s suggestions only tells part of the story.
Still, it’s a telling glimpse of where Samsung wants Now Brief to go. The feature started as a productivity play, but Samsung clearly sees it as a home for all the little decisions that fill a day — including the ones you make with a remote in your hand. Whether it becomes genuinely useful or just another thing to swipe past depends on how well the algorithm reads the room.
For now, beta users can go hunting for it in One UI 9 Beta 7. Everyone else gets to wait and see whether a phone recommending your next binge is a convenience or an overreach.
