Blizzard StarCraft. Glitchy website and secret Terran logs tease a comeback

The official StarCraft website started glitching on September 3, 2026 — and it was no server hiccup. Fans digging through the site’s code discovered a set of cryptic, partially redacted messages, the strongest signal in years that Blizzard Entertainment is preparing something new for its dormant sci-fi universe. The timing is hard to ignore, with BlizzCon 2026 set for September 12 and 13 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The site itself still fronts 2017’s StarCraft Remastered, but visitors noticed unsettling visual glitches across the page. The real payload sits in the JavaScript console, where hidden messages — some in plain text, some encoded in binary — read like intercepted transmissions from the game’s universe. Two of them depict an unidentified user failing to log into a Terran Dominion server, then getting flagged after asking about a mysterious special order 176.

Other messages lean harder into series lore. They reference:

  • a Terran Banshee transport ship;
  • the Terran frontier world of Roxara and its Lunar Mining Complex;
  • a Dominion group called Theta Squadron, en route with crates described as pivotal to a confidential research operation.

One piece of correspondence even carries a date — the year 2575, which would place the events being teased about 70 years after StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void. Notably, every message uncovered so far concerns a single faction, the Terrans — fuel for speculation that whatever Blizzard is cooking may be more focused than a classic three-race strategy epic.

The teaser landed amid reports that Blizzard is reviving StarCraft with help from Korean publisher Nexon. Separately, Blizzard is reportedly developing a StarCraft shooter led by former Far Cry producer Dan Hay, who joined the company in 2022; in 2024, a Blizzard job listing revealed work on an unannounced open-world shooter game. None of this has been officially confirmed as a StarCraft title.

The franchise could certainly use the attention. The original StarCraft launched in March 1998, with the Brood War expansion following that December. StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty arrived 12 years later and received two expansions, Heart of the Swarm in 2013 and Legacy of the Void in 2015. The series’ last release was StarCraft: Remastered in 2017, and the road in between is littered with abandoned spinoffs — the infamous third-person shooter StarCraft: Ghost and a shooter codenamed Ares among them.

Answers should arrive at BlizzCon 2026, which returns after a three-year hiatus on September 12, 2026, at the Anaheim Convention Center. If the Terran Dominion’s servers are already acting up, someone at Blizzard clearly wants us to start paying attention.
