Kaleidescape spent CEDIA Expo 2026 doing something almost nobody else in home cinema can do convincingly — playing native 8K movies off a local box rather than promising them over a stream. The Strato K, the company’s new flagship movie player, was shown at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver during the show, which ran September 1–4, 2026. It had already been launched on June 18, 2026, at an MSRP of US$4,995.
The headline capability is native 8K video playback in SDR and HDR10. The player’s video format list runs 4320p30/25/24, 2160p60/50/30/25/24, 1080p60/50/24, 720p60/50, 576i, 576p, 480i, 480p, and it is the first movie player certified by the 8K Association as meeting the performance and interoperability requirements set by the Association’s Technical Working Group. The Association’s members include Panasonic, Samsung and Xperi.
Arguably more interesting for anyone whose projector tops out at 4K is the new 4K Cinematic mode. It uses the same 8K-class processing to deliver full chroma — up to 4:4:4 — and what Kaleidescape describes as “much higher” bitrates than ordinary 4K, and it supports Dolby Vision for 4K Cinematic playback. Chroma handling is specified as 4:4:4 8/10/12-bit up to 2160p60, 4:2:2 12-bit up to 2160p60, and 4:2:0 8/10/12-bit up to 4320p30. More than 150 titles were already available in 4K Cinematic at launch.
Audio is handled without compromise on the lossless side. The Strato K passes Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X and DTS-HD Master Audio, plus Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Surround, Dolby MAT PCM and PCM up to 7.1 channels at 96kHz/24-bit. The onscreen interface runs full-time at 4K60 — a small detail that says a lot about the processing headroom inside.

The Strato K works standalone or grouped with one or more Kaleidescape Terra movie servers, which is how owners turn a single player into whole-home storage rather than a rotating shortlist of favourites. Content comes from the Kaleidescape movie store — thousands of movies, TV series and concerts in 8K, 4K Cinematic, 4K and 2K with lossless multichannel and object-based audio. According to the company, a 4K Cinematic movie can download in as little as 15 minutes over gigabit Ethernet.
“Kaleidescape’s Strato K is the world’s highest-fidelity movie player,” said chairman and CEO Tayloe Stansbury. “It brings movie lovers closer to the filmmaker’s intent.” Juan Reyes, Executive Director of the 8K Association, called the player “a major milestone for the industry.” At five grand before you buy a single film, it is not a mass-market proposition — but neither is a reference screening room.
