The Helghast may be marching again. A report published by MP1st in September 2026 claims that a new Killzone project is in very early stages of production — and that Guerrilla Games, the studio that created the series, is not the one building it.
Instead, the work is said to sit with an external partner. The name that keeps coming up is People Can Fly, the Polish studio behind Bulletstorm and Outriders, which also has Gears of War experience on its resume. The link runs through a deal People Can Fly signed with PlayStation in March 2025 to build a PS5 title based on an existing Sony IP, a project publicly known only by the codename Project Delta. MP1st’s sources tie that codename to Killzone.
The consistent thread across the reporting is that this is a visual uplift of an older game rather than a ground-up reboot. The most likely candidate, according to MP1st, is the original Killzone, released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2. That game was never the critical darling PlayStation wanted — Polygon notes its Metacritic score sits at just 70/100 — but it was the opening shot of what became Sony’s flagship first-person shooter series, and it has already been given the remaster treatment once before.
Why start there? The report frames the project as a temperature check: a relatively contained way for PlayStation to find out whether a full-scale Killzone revival is worth the investment before committing to one.
The scheduling picture is messier. Killzone was reportedly lined up to become Guerrilla’s main focus once Horizon Hunters Gathering was finished, but that live-service spin-off has been pulled back into redevelopment and retooled away from the live-service model toward a more conventional multiplayer game. With those plans in flux, the Killzone project is now said to be positioned to arrive ahead of Horizon 3.
What the report does and does not establish is worth keeping straight:
- Claimed: a Killzone remaster or remake in very early development, led by an outside studio
- Claimed: People Can Fly and its Project Delta as the most likely home for it
- Claimed: the 2004 original as the most likely game being rebuilt
- Not established: a release date, a platform list, or any official word from Sony or Guerrilla Games
Some context for how long this well has been dry: the last entry in the series was Killzone Shadow Fall, a PlayStation 4 launch title from 2013. Everything since has been Horizon. A remaster of the first game would be the franchise’s first new release in over a decade — and, on the strength of a 2004 shooter with a 70/100 average, an unusually humble way to restart it.
None of this is announced. Very early development is exactly the stage at which plans get rewritten, partners change and codenamed projects quietly disappear. Treat it as a well-sourced rumour, not a release calendar entry.
