Diablo IV Age of Hatred Collection. Switch 2 port brings mouse controls to Sanctuary

Diablo on a console has always involved a small compromise: a franchise born on the PC, played with thumbsticks. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Diablo IV may close that gap. Blizzard confirmed to Polygon that the port, sold as the Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection, will support Joy-Con 2 mouse controls at launch. That’s a feature none of the other console versions have.

The package includes the base game plus both expansions, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred. Blizzard announced it at BlizzCon 2026 and set a Switch 2 launch date of September 15. RPG Site lists the price at $69.99 and says the port supports the touchscreen and HDR.

What mouse mode means on Switch 2

Set a Joy-Con 2 flat side down on a table and it works like a mouse, moving a cursor. Fortnite, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond and Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 already use this, but few games take advantage of it. For an isometric loot-driven RPG built around pointing and clicking, it fits naturally. The catch is that nobody got to try it at BlizzCon. At Polygon’s demo kiosk, the Joy-Con 2 controllers were locked to the console in handheld mode, so the mouse feature remained a promise.

Hands-on impressions from BlizzCon 2026

The demo was a quest from Season of Hell’s Legacy, called “A Journey Through The Past.” It sends players into a dungeon inside the Furnace of Hate to face villains from across the series, including Mephisto, The Lord of Hatred, and Belial, The Lord of Lies. Longtime fans will spot enemies named after Diablo 2 bosses such as Achmel and Colenzo. PC players at the show ran the same quest, which suggests the Switch 2 version is missing no content. Unlike the Diablo 3 Switch release, though, it doesn’t appear to add any Nintendo-themed bonuses.

Polygon’s verdict breaks down by play mode:

  • Docked: not as sharp as the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, and a step down from the high-end PC running next to it. Polygon compared it to the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Loading was surprisingly fast, busy boss fights didn’t noticeably lag, and inputs stayed responsive.
  • Handheld: the real draw. Resolution and frame rate felt stable even when the screen filled with enemies. The main drawback is small in-game text, which makes long item descriptions and dialogue harder to read.

Blizzard didn’t give exact resolution or frame-rate figures, and Polygon couldn’t measure them at the show.

Launch lines up with a new season

The Switch 2 release coincides with Season of Hell’s Legacy, which celebrates Diablo’s 30th anniversary. According to Blizzard, the season begins rolling out on September 15, 9:30 a.m. PT. Deckard Cain returns, and players face the Prime Evils. At the same BlizzCon, Blizzard also confirmed that Diablo V is in development and coming Spring 2029. Until then, the Age of Hatred Collection is the main new way to play Diablo IV, and the only console version you can play with a mouse.
