Rumors had been circling it for weeks, and now OnePlus has confirmed it: the OnePlus 16 will carry a 9,000mAh battery. Company executive Li Jie Louis revealed the figure in a post on Weibo, ahead of the phone’s China debut, scheduled for October 12.
For context, the OnePlus 15 packs a 7,300mAh cell, so the new flagship gains a 1,700mAh larger battery from one generation to the next. That is a big jump for a phone that, according to OnePlus, looks largely identical to its predecessor. The extra capacity should translate into longer battery life, especially as the OnePlus 16 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, which is expected to be more efficient. OnePlus has also confirmed support for 50W wireless charging.
The battery news is the latest in a steady drip of official details. Here is what OnePlus has confirmed so far:
- Chipset: Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6
- Battery: 9,000mAh, with 50W wireless charging
- Display: 185Hz refresh rate, with a system-wide refresh rate of 165Hz; native 185fps gaming in titles such as Arena Breakout, Naruto Mobile and Peace Elite
- Extra silicon: a custom display chip, a dedicated touch-response chip and a separate connectivity chip
- Rear cameras: 200MP primary (1/1.4 inch, f/1.6), 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom, 50MP ultrawide with a 116 degree field of view
- Front camera: 50MP
- Memory: 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB, 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB in China
The camera system also uses Oppo’s Lumo imaging engine, and OnePlus has already published sample shots taken with the phone. The launch date was announced at the 2026 OnePlus Gaming Conference in China, which explains why the gaming features got so much attention: a 185Hz panel backed by dedicated chips for the display and touch input looks like a clear play for players of competitive mobile shooters.
Three finishes are on the menu: Dark Forest (black), Mars Masterpiece (light orange) and Tomorrow Starlight (grey). The orange and Starlight versions get a distinctive pattern on the rear panel. Pre-reservations are open through OnePlus’ official online store in China.
What OnePlus has not shared yet is pricing. That should come with the October 12 launch, along with the remaining specs. The international rollout plans are also unclear. With a 9,000mAh battery, a 200MP main camera and Qualcomm’s top chipset, the OnePlus 16 is shaping up as one of the most aggressive flagships of the season on paper. How well the hardware holds up in daily use is another matter.
