Marantz Model 70 and CD 70. The old guard bows out with fresh style
SHARE

Marantz has retired two of its best-loved budget classics, the PM6007 amplifier and CD6007 CD player, and replaced them with a pair of freshly styled newcomers: the Model 70 integrated amplifier and the CD 70 compact disc player. Both were unveiled on 15 July 2026.

The most obvious change is the look. The Model 70 and CD 70 finally fall into line with the rest of Marantz’s electronics range, sporting textured front panels and — on the amplifier — the brand’s signature circular ‘porthole’ window. But this isn’t just a cosmetic refresh. Marantz promises a raft of internal upgrades built around optimised circuit layouts, carefully chosen components and vibration-resistant chassis structures.

The Model 70 amplifier is a Class A/B design pushing out 50 watts per channel, backed by an enhanced power supply and a larger toroidal transformer than its predecessor. Marantz has swapped the PM6007’s analogue volume control for an electronic one, and packed in a high-performance DAC, a moving-magnet phono stage, and Bluetooth with aptX HD and aptX Adaptive — including the ability to both send and receive. There’s HDMI ARC on board too, plus preamplifier and subwoofer preouts and the usual spread of analogue and digital inputs. Headphone users get a fully discrete amplifier with HDAM technology, adjustable gain and automatic headphone detection.

The CD 70 shares the same high-performance DAC, wrapped in Marantz’s HDAM circuitry in the analogue output stage. A front-panel USB-A input lets you plug in an external drive, with support for FLAC HD, ALAC, AIFF and DSD files. Like the amp, it carries a fully separate HDAM headphone amplifier with automatic headphone detection. Under the hood you’ll find an upgraded power supply, a double-layered chassis and rigid isolation feet to fend off outside interference.

On price, the CD 70 lands at $750 / £499 / €600 (exc VAT). Given the CD6007 arrived at £399 back in 2020, that’s a fairly gentle rise. The Model 70 costs £749 / €850 (exc VAT), a steeper jump from the £499 launch price of the outgoing PM6007. Both amps come in black or a silver-and-gold finish.

There’s a catch for American buyers: there is no US price for the Model 70, and the amplifier won’t be sold in North America. The CD 70 goes on sale worldwide from 15 August 2026, available through Marantz.com and selected retailers.

The PM6007 and CD6007 enjoyed a strong run of nearly six years and a shelf full of awards, so seeing them go is bittersweet. But the successors look ready to carry the torch — and we’re keen to hear whether the new circuitry delivers on Marantz’s promises.
