Wuthering Waves: Elysium. Kuro Games spins up its own animation studio

The gacha juggernaut Wuthering Waves is stepping off the phone screen and into animation. Developer Kuro Games has launched a dedicated animation label called Kuro Onroad, and its debut project is Wuthering Waves: Elysium — an anime set in the same post-apocalyptic world players have been exploring since the game’s release.

The reveal landed on July 18, 2026, courtesy of an announcement trailer. If you were hoping for the full package — episode count, cast, studio partners, a streaming home or even a rough release window — you’ll have to sit tight. Kuro kept its cards close, offering the trailer and little else. What we do know is that Elysium represents the very first output from Kuro Onroad, signaling that the studio sees animation as a serious pillar of its business rather than a one-off marketing stunt.

That distinction matters. Plenty of live-service games get a promotional short or a splashy CG cinematic and call it a day. Spinning up a named brand like Kuro Onroad suggests something more ambitious: an in-house pipeline built to extend Wuthering Waves — and potentially other Kuro properties — across formats. It’s a page borrowed from the playbook of studios that treat their game worlds as multimedia franchises first and games second.

Wuthering Waves has always leaned heavily on cinematic presentation, from its fluid combat animations to its lengthy story sequences. An anime adaptation is, in that sense, a natural next step. The game’s melancholic, ruin-strewn setting and its roster of stylized Resonators offer plenty of raw material for a serialized story that doesn’t have to bend around gameplay loops or gacha pulls.

A few open questions loom large:

  • Who’s animating it? Kuro Onroad is new, so whether Elysium is produced entirely in-house or with an established animation partner remains unclear.
  • Where will it stream? No platform has been named.
  • How much of the game’s story will it cover? The trailer didn’t spell out whether this is a canon retelling, a prequel, or an original side-story.

For now, Wuthering Waves: Elysium is best filed under “watch this space.” The trailer is a statement of intent more than a proper first look, but the creation of an entire animation brand around it tells you Kuro Games isn’t treating this as a throwaway. Expect the studio to drip-feed details as production ramps up — and expect the wider gacha industry to be watching closely to see whether a developer-owned anime label can actually stick the landing.
