DCKO. DC's next fighting game ditches the console for your pocket

Fans hoping for Injustice 3 got something different on July 20, 2026, when DC pulled the wraps off DCKO — a name the internet immediately mispronounced as “Dicko.” Developed by Drop Fake, it’s a free-to-play fighting game built for mobile, and it swaps the cinematic one-on-one slugfests of the Injustice series for something faster and looser.

The headline mechanic is 2v2 combat with tags, assists and more — a team-based structure that owes more to platform fighters and tag-team brawlers than to the traditional DC fighting lineage. Instead of committing to a single hero, you’ll pair up two characters and rotate them in and out mid-fight, calling in your partner for assist moves or hot-swapping to escape pressure. It’s a format that tends to reward quick thinking over memorized combo strings, which suits a touchscreen audience nicely.

The currently announced roster stands at 19 characters, drawing heavily from the Bat-family, the Justice League and DC’s magical and cosmic corners:

  • Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Starfire, Zatana, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Cyborg, Raven, Blue Beetle, Constantine, Katana, Bane, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Lex Luthor and Doomsday

That’s a healthy mix out of the gate, with the promise of one additional character joining each month — a steady drip that keeps the meta shifting and gives lapsed players a reason to check back in. It’s the kind of live-service cadence that has become standard for free-to-play fighters, and it lines up neatly with the mobile-first ambitions here.

Speaking of which, this is unapologetically a phone game. There’s no mention of a console or PC version, and the free-to-play model signals that DCKO wants to live on the same devices as your daily commute and lunch-break sessions. How it plans to make money remains unsaid — no monetization details, cosmetics or battle-pass talk have surfaced yet.

The bigger question mark is timing. There’s no firm release date or even a window announced yet. What you can do right now is pre-register, which is open following the announcement — the usual way publishers gauge interest and build a mailing list ahead of a soft launch.

It’s an interesting pivot for a franchise universe that fans mostly associate with NetherRealm’s console fighters. By going mobile, 2v2 and free-to-play, Drop Fake is chasing a completely different crowd — one that plays in bursts rather than tournaments. Whether the assist-heavy team format clicks on touchscreens, and whether “Dicko” can shake off its unfortunate nickname, we’ll find out in due course.
