Samsung’s latest clamshell foldable arrived at a Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22, 2026, and if you were hoping for a radical redesign, temper your expectations. The Galaxy Z Flip8 looks all but indistinguishable from last year’s Flip7. The interesting changes are on the inside.
The headline upgrade is the chipset. In the US, the Flip8 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, while buyers in other regions get Samsung’s own Exynos 2600. That regional split is nothing new for Samsung, but the performance ceiling here is meaningfully higher than the previous generation. Backing the silicon is 12GB of RAM and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of storage.
Software also gets a refresh with One UI 9, which layers Samsung’s latest interface tweaks and AI features over the folding form factor.
On the display front, the story is continuity rather than reinvention. The Flip8 keeps the 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main panel that unfolds from the clamshell hinge, paired with a 4.1-inch cover screen on the outside for glancing at notifications, snapping selfies with the rear cameras, or firing off quick replies without opening the phone.
Photography is handled by a familiar but capable setup:
- 50MP main sensor with f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization
- 12MP ultrawide with f/2.2 aperture
- 10MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture
The OIS on the main sensor is the kind of detail that separates a usable folding camera from a gimmicky one, and pairing it with the cover display means you can compose properly framed shots using the higher-quality rear glass.
Powering all of this is a 4,300mAh battery. Despite the extra hardware, Samsung has kept the phone impressively slim and light: it measures just 6.1mm thick when unfolded and tips the scales at 180 grams. For a device that folds in half, that’s a genuinely pocket-friendly package.
Pricing lands where you’d expect for a flagship foldable. In the US, the Flip8 starts at $1,199 for the 256GB model, rising to $1,399 for 512GB. UK buyers pay £1,149 for the 256GB version, while European pricing sits at €1,299 for the same configuration.
Pre-orders opened on July 22, 2026, the same day as the announcement, with the phone reaching select markets on August 7, 2026. The Flip8 isn’t the reinvention some were hoping for, but a faster chipset, One UI 9 and a slim, light chassis make for a sensible iterative upgrade on one of the more polished clamshell foldables around.
