Marichka AI. Ukraine's answer to Palantir compresses battle planning into minutes
SHARE

For years, one slice of the modern battlefield has quietly belonged to Palantir: the software layer that fuses reconnaissance, logistics and command data into something a general can act on. Ukraine now wants that layer for itself, and it has a name — Marichka AI.

Unveiled on July 23, 2026 by the Central Research Institute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Marichka is a homegrown command-and-control system built to do the unglamorous but decisive work of turning chaos into a plan. According to Ukraine, that is exactly where it makes its mark: in testing, the system reportedly cut battle planning that once took around 12 hours down to a matter of minutes.

That kind of compression is not just a speed flex. On a contested front, a plan that arrives twelve hours late is often a plan for a situation that no longer exists. By collapsing the analysis-to-decision loop, Marichka is designed to hand commanders actionable goals fast enough to still matter — the difference between reacting to yesterday and shaping tomorrow.

What makes the project notable is less the tool than the intent behind it. Palantir has become shorthand for the AI-driven decision support that Western militaries lean on, and Ukraine has been one of its highest-profile wartime users. Marichka signals an attempt to reclaim that dependency — to own the brain of the operation rather than rent it.

Details, unsurprisingly, are thin. The system’s technical specifications have not been disclosed, and for a live-war military platform that silence is the point. There is no consumer version, no price, no shelf date — Marichka is government-built defense software, not a gadget you can buy.

It is also early. So far Marichka has only completed initial trials, and crucially those trials ran on test data rather than the full mess of real operational feeds. The developers say they are continuing to train and refine the underlying neural network, which is the honest way of admitting that the headline numbers come from a controlled sandbox, not the front line.

Still, the ambition is clear and the framing is deliberate. In an era where software increasingly decides who sees the battlefield first, Ukraine is betting that the country doing the fighting should also control the code doing the thinking. Whether Marichka’s minutes-not-hours promise survives contact with reality is the question its ongoing testing is meant to answer.

For now, treat the numbers as a target the neural network is being trained to hit — an impressive one, but one still waiting for its first real-world verdict.
