Floorstanding speakers usually mean sacrificing a chunk of your living room, but Q Acoustics has built the 3040c for people who want tower sound without towering dimensions. It slots in below the 3050c to complete the brand’s most affordable 3000c range, two years after that series first landed.
At the heart of every 3000c speaker sits the C3 driver platform — that’s ‘C-cubed’, short for Continuous Curved Cone. The idea is to marry the punchy bass of a traditional straight cone with the midrange clarity and high-frequency control of a flared design. Q Acoustics reckons that translates to controlled bass, an expressive midrange and a smoother handover to the tweeter. Here it’s handled by a pair of 120mm mid/bass drivers and a single 22mm tweeter.
That tweeter is where the 3040c borrows from the flagship Concept series. It uses a floating design that’s hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the baffle, cutting internal pressure and midrange vibration. Paired with a vented inner chamber, the aim is ultra-low distortion, less coloration and a lower crossover point for a more seamless blend between drivers.
Inside the cabinet, Point to Point (P2P) bracing tightens up the stereo image and widens the soundstage, while Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser (HPE) tubes cancel internal pressure to clean up the frequency response.
On paper the numbers back up the small-room pitch:
- Frequency response (-6 dB): 43Hz – 30kHz
- Nominal impedance: 6Ω (minimum 4Ω)
- Sensitivity: 88dB (1m, 2.83 Vrms @ 1kHz)
- Recommended amplifier power: 25 – 120W
- Dimensions (HxWxD): 942 x 285 x 281mm
- Weight: 14.6kg per speaker
Like the 3050c, the 3040c rides on a solid aluminium stabiliser base with top-adjustable spikes for levelling. It also inherits the 5000 series’ low-profile terminal panel with recessed binding posts, so you can push it closer to a wall — handy when floorspace is tight. The signature curved cabinet keeps things clean, with no visible joints or bolts, and comes in four finishes: Satin Black, Satin White, Pink Oak and Claro Walnut.
The 3040c is on sale now in the UK and reaches the US in October 2026. It’s priced at $1,099 / £599 / €899 per pair, sitting just under the 3050c — a compelling entry point for anyone chasing floorstander scale in a compact package.
