Procore Buys DroneDeploy. When construction sites go fully robotic

Construction software giant Procore Technologies has made its biggest bet yet on physical automation, agreeing to acquire visual intelligence firm DroneDeploy for approximately US$845 million in cash, subject to customary purchase price adjustments. The deal was announced on July 29, 2026, and it signals a serious push to fuse jobsite robotics with the digital tools that manage them.

If you’ve never heard of DroneDeploy, its platform has been quietly racking up serious mileage. It has been used on over 3 million jobsites across more than 180 countries — numbers that put it firmly among the heavyweights of reality capture. The clever bit is how much hardware it corrals under one roof.

DroneDeploy isn’t just about drones anymore, despite the name. Its capture pipeline spans:

  • Aerial drones
  • Ground robots
  • Mobile devices
  • Fixed cameras
  • Wearable cameras

All of that imagery gets crunched into three-dimensional site documentation — essentially a living digital twin of a construction site that updates as the physical work progresses. That’s the real prize here. Procore already runs the project management, scheduling and financial layer for construction firms; bolting on DroneDeploy gives it the eyes and the spatial data to close the gap between what’s planned on a screen and what’s actually happening in the dirt and steel.

The strategic logic is tidy. Ground robots and drones roll through a site, wearable cams ride along with the crew, and the resulting 3D models feed straight back into the project software that contractors are already living in. For an industry that has been notoriously slow to digitize, that kind of automated feedback loop is a meaningful leap.

It’s worth stressing that this is an enterprise transaction, not a shiny gadget you’ll be pre-ordering. And it isn’t done yet. Closing is anticipated by the end of 2026, and it still hinges on DroneDeploy stockholder approval, accuracy of representations and warranties, covenant compliance, and regulatory clearances — including expiration or termination of the Hart-Scott-Rodino waiting period. In other words, the antitrust regulators and shareholders get their say before anything is final.

Still, the direction of travel is clear. Robotics on construction sites is moving from novelty demo to standard equipment, and the software players are racing to own the data those robots produce. Procore, trading on the NYSE as PCOR, is betting nearly a billion dollars that visual intelligence is the layer everyone will want. Given how many jobsites DroneDeploy is already crawling over, that bet looks less like a gamble and more like a land grab.
