Lava Agni 4N. India's budget challenger sets its sights on Britain
SHARE

Lava’s long-teased UK arrival is finally taking shape. The Indian handset maker, which had been tipped to crack the British market back in Q1 2026, has now officially confirmed that its route in will be the Lava Agni 4N — a phone that, curiously, hasn’t even launched in India yet.

Lava dropped the confirmation on August 3, 2026, and while the marketing teaser plays coy, the specs paint a picture of a device punching well above its price point. And that price is the headline: £290. For that money, you’re looking at hardware that would normally sit a tier or two higher.

Under the hood sits a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chipset, backed by 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. That combination of fast memory and fast storage is exactly the sort of thing that makes a sub-£300 phone feel far snappier than its badge suggests.

The display is a 6.67-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel running at 120Hz, so scrolling and animations should be buttery smooth. On the back you get a 50MP primary camera with OIS paired with an 8MP ultra-wide, while selfie duties fall to a generous 50MP front camera. It’s a camera loadout that clearly wants to compete on more than just specs on paper.

Keeping the lights on is a 5,000 mAh battery with 66W wired charging, and the software side is handled by Android 15 out of the box.

Lava’s teaser on X leans into the cheeky marketing that budget brands love, claiming the Agni 4N “does what SAM can’t” — a not-so-subtle jab at a certain South Korean rival. The teaser image also hints that the rear camera island will look identical to last November’s Agni 4, suggesting a familial design language carried across the range.

Here’s the interesting wrinkle: the Agni 4N is being positioned as a UK product before it has surfaced in Lava’s home market. That’s an unusual play, and it signals just how seriously the company is treating its international ambitions. Breaking into Britain is no small task — the market is crowded, and value-focused newcomers have to fight hard for shelf space and mindshare.

On paper, though, the Agni 4N has the ammunition. A capable Dimensity chip, fast RAM and storage, a high-refresh AMOLED, OIS on the main sensor and rapid charging — all wrapped up for £290 — is the kind of value proposition that gets attention. Whether Lava can translate specs into a compelling retail presence remains the open question, but as debut statements go, this is a confident one.
