That’s the pitch behind its new economy tier of planetary servo gear units, unveiled on August 11, 2026.
The lineup consists of three fresh members — the P1.G, P2.G and P3.G — which slot into the existing PxG family below the precision-grade P5.G, P6.G and P7.G. Think of it as the sensible sibling range: still built for real servo duty, but tuned for applications where the tightest tolerances simply aren’t worth paying for.
Across the economy series, buyers get five sizes, with peak torque ratings spanning 11 to 500 Nm. That’s a broad enough spread to cover everything from compact positioning axes to considerably beefier motion tasks, and each unit can be specified in one- or two-stage configurations depending on the reduction ratio you’re after.
Where the economy positioning shows up is in the backlash figures. These units offer rotational clearance from 6 to 12 arcminutes — looser than what you’d find in SEW-EURODRIVE’s precision range, but perfectly serviceable for conveying, handling and general machine-building duties where hairline repeatability isn’t the deciding factor.
Durability, though, hasn’t been sacrificed to hit the price point. SEW-EURODRIVE rates the gear units for a service life of more than 20,000 hours, which is the kind of longevity that keeps maintenance schedules boring and production lines running.
The strategy here is straightforward and, frankly, overdue in this segment. Machine builders and integrators frequently over-specify gearboxes simply because a manufacturer’s catalogue tops out at the premium end. By extending the PxG family downward, SEW-EURODRIVE gives engineers a way to match the component to the job rather than the other way around — a cost-conscious middle ground that sits between throwaway hardware and high-end precision.
A few things to note: the choice of one- versus two-stage builds means ratio flexibility without forcing you into an oversized unit, and the shared PxG lineage suggests mounting and integration should feel familiar to anyone already working with the precision models. That continuity matters when you’re standardising components across a factory floor.
