Shark AquaReach. The wet-dry vac that stretches to reach every wall

SharkNinja is taking aim at one of cleaning’s most annoying compromises: the choice between a stubby wet-dry vac that never quite reaches the corner and a lightweight stick vac that can’t handle a spill. Its answer is the Shark AquaReach, an extendable wet-dry vacuum built, in the company’s words, for wall-to-wall cleaning.

The headline trick here is right in the name. Instead of a fixed-length body, the AquaReach uses an extendable wand designed to help you push into skirting boards, under low furniture and across those awkward stretches of floor where a rigid vacuum forces you to bend, shuffle and reposition. It’s a simple idea, but on a machine that has to juggle both wet and dry messes, the extra reach is exactly the kind of thing that separates a chore you dread from one you actually finish.

Wet-dry vacs have long been the workhorses of the garage and the utility room, equally happy inhaling sawdust, cereal or a puddle of spilled juice. The knock against them has always been ergonomics: they’re bulky, awkward to steer and rarely designed with everyday home cleaning in mind. By bolting an extendable wand onto that formula, Shark is clearly trying to drag the category out of the workshop and into the living room.

What’s genuinely useful about a single wet-and-dry machine is that it collapses two tools into one. There’s no swapping between a dry vacuum for crumbs and a mop for spills — the AquaReach is pitched as the device you grab whether the mess is solid or liquid. Pair that with the promise of reaching every wall, and you have a clear play for people tired of owning a cupboard full of half-used cleaning gadgets.

A few things worth keeping in perspective:

  • Extendable wand — the core feature, aimed at cutting out the awkward bending and repositioning that plague conventional wet-dry vacs.
  • Wet and dry pickup — one machine for both spills and dry debris, reducing the need for separate tools.
  • Wall-to-wall focus — Shark is positioning this squarely as a whole-floor cleaner rather than a niche workshop vac.

SharkNinja has built a reputation on taking established categories and rethinking the parts everyone else left alone, from robot vacuums to cordless sticks. The AquaReach follows that same playbook, targeting the one thing that makes wet-dry vacs feel like relics: their inability to actually reach where the dirt hides.

Whether the extendable wand proves as transformative as the pitch suggests will come down to how it feels in hand over a full clean — the weight, the balance and how solidly that wand locks at full extension. But the ambition is refreshingly focused. Rather than piling on features, Shark has zeroed in on reach, and for anyone who has fought a short-hosed wet-dry vac around a room, that alone is a compelling reason to pay attention.
