FiiO EA13. A 1950s tube dream reborn with 28 watts of Class A muscle

FiiO built its reputation on pocket-sized DAСs and headphone dongles, so a full-size vacuum tube amplifier feels like a deliberate change of pace. The EA13 leans hard into nostalgia, drawing its design language from what the company calls the “golden era of 1950s tube amplifiers” — but underneath the retro sheen sits a surprisingly modern, feature-heavy machine.

The heart of the EA13 is a six-tube layout running a Class A push-pull circuit. That means two Sylvania NOS PCF80 tubes handling preamplification, backed by four JJ Electronic EL34 power tubes doing the heavy lifting. The reward for all that glowing glass is 28 watts per channel at 8 ohms — modest on paper next to a beefy Class D brick, but Class A tube watts have a way of feeling bigger than they measure, and they tend to sound gorgeous doing it.

FiiO quotes a frequency response of 20Hz–60kHz, with attenuation kept below 2.9dB across that span. The upper reach well beyond human hearing is the kind of headroom that keeps the audible band clean and airy, which is exactly the “classic hi-fi” character FiiO is chasing here.

What separates the EA13 from a genuine 1950s relic is convenience. This is a modern amplifier wearing vintage clothes, and the mix of NOS and current-production tubes suggests FiiO wants the warmth of old-school valves without the maintenance headaches of hunting down decades-old components. The EL34 in particular is one of the most beloved and widely available power tubes ever made, so re-tubing down the road won’t be a treasure hunt.

A few practical notes for anyone tempted:

  • Circuit: Class A push-pull, six tubes total
  • Power: 28 watts per channel at 8 ohms
  • Tubes: 2× Sylvania NOS PCF80, 4× JJ Electronic EL34
  • Frequency response: 20Hz–60kHz (attenuation below 2.9dB)

The EA13 made its public debut at the Hong Kong High-End Audio Visual Show 2026, and it has been shipping in China since July 27, 2026. It is on sale now through authorized retailers, including Apos Audio, so this is no vaporware teaser.

Pricing depends on where you shop. The EA13 carries a US$659 international price, rising to US$769 through US dealers, or €665 in Europe. That puts it squarely in the enthusiast bracket rather than the boutique stratosphere — a reasonable ask for a genuine EL34 tube amp with NOS preamp tubes and FiiO’s usual attention to build.

For listeners who have flirted with tube sound but balked at the price of established audiophile brands, the EA13 looks like an unusually approachable way in — a little slice of the 1950s that plays nicely with a 2026 setup.
