Sigma Aizu Prime. Cinema glass grows longer and wider without losing its edge

Sigma has expanded its Aizu Prime cinema lens line, and the additions push the range in both directions. The 18mm T1.3 LF, 21mm T1.3 LF, 105mm T1.3 LF, and 125mm T1.3 LF join eight existing T1.3 Aizu primes that previously spanned 25mm to 75mm, giving cinematographers a much broader focal spread to work with.

The headline trick here is consistency. The Aizu Prime Line is billed as the world’s first lineup of large-format cinema lenses to hit an aperture value of T1.3 across all focal lengths. That matters on set: swap from a wide to a telephoto and you keep the same fast stop, the same shallow depth-of-field character, and no exposure recalculation between shots. For a discipline built on matched looks, that kind of uniformity is gold.

Sigma has clearly designed the range with rig ergonomics in mind. Every lens shares a 95mm front diameter, an average weight of 3.6 pounds, and 0.8 pitch gears placed uniformly from one focal length to the next. In practice, that means matte boxes, follow-focus units, and motors stay put when you change lenses — a small detail that saves real time during a shoot.

Coverage is where the “LF” designation earns its keep. Each lens projects a 46.3mm image circle, enough to cover full-frame and Super 35 formats, plus ARRI ALEXA LF Open Gate and VistaVision. The primes ship in both ARRI PL and Sony E mounts, and they support ZEISS eXtended Data, feeding real-time lens metadata straight into your workflow for cleaner VFX and post.

Here’s how the timeline shakes out. The line was announced in June 2025, and the initial eight lenses — 25mm, 27mm, 32mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, and 75mm — began shipping in August 2025. The complete family runs 18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 27mm, 32mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 75mm, 105mm, and 125mm. The 18mm and 21mm wides are slated for release in fall 2026, rounding out the set at both ends.

Each lens carries a price of US$8,299. That’s not pocket change, but for a matched set of large-format primes holding a full-frame image circle at T1.3 throughout, it lands squarely in professional territory rather than boutique-exotic pricing.

The upshot is a cine range that no longer forces compromises at the edges. Whether you’re reaching for a tight 125mm portrait or throwing on a fast wide, the Aizu Prime Line promises the same aperture, the same handling, and the same rendering — which is exactly what a serious lens set is supposed to deliver.
