TP-Link Archer 8 Ultra. First Wi-Fi 8 router lands at IFA 2026
SHARE

The next chapter in home networking arrived at IFA 2026, where TP-Link pulled the wraps off what it billed as the world’s first Wi-Fi 8 lineup. The headliners are the Archer 8 Ultra standalone router and the Deco 8 Ultra mesh system — two devices built around a standard that focuses less on raw peak throughput and more on the things that actually make a congested home feel snappy.

Wi-Fi 8’s big promise is reliability rather than record-breaking speed. It brings meaningful improvements in handling wireless interference and juggling a growing swarm of connected gadgets — the smart bulbs, cameras, laptops, phones and consoles that now fight for airtime in the average household. For anyone whose network buckles the moment everyone starts streaming, that’s arguably more useful than another headline gigabit figure.

That said, the specs are hardly modest. The Archer 8 Ultra packs 18 internal antennas and delivers up to 19 Gbps of aggregate wireless speed, backed by 10 Gbps wired connectivity. TP-Link rates its coverage at up to 3,600 square feet, putting it firmly in flagship territory for a single-unit router.

Step up to whole-home coverage and the Deco 8 Ultra takes over. This tri-band mesh system — 6GHz band included — pushes aggregate speeds of up to 22 Gbps, though European buyers should note that figure drops to 19 Gbps in that region. It also offers 10 Gbps wired connectivity, and a three-pack blankets up to 9,800 square feet. Perhaps the most telling number is device capacity: the Deco 8 Ultra is designed to keep 200+ devices online at once, which is exactly where Wi-Fi 8’s interference-management chops are meant to shine.

Here’s a quick rundown of how the two compare:

  • Archer 8 Ultra: 18 internal antennas, up to 19 Gbps wireless, 10 Gbps wired, coverage up to 3,600 sq ft
  • Deco 8 Ultra: tri-band (6GHz) mesh, up to 22 Gbps aggregate (19 Gbps in Europe), 10 Gbps wired, 9,800 sq ft with a 3-pack, 200+ device support

The catch, as always with bleeding-edge networking gear, is timing and cost. TP-Link has not revealed pricing for either device yet. Pre-orders for the Archer 8 Ultra open on September 30, 2026, so early adopters keen to be first onto Wi-Fi 8 won’t have long to wait before they can commit.

Wi-Fi 8 hardware this early in the standard’s life is very much a statement of intent, and TP-Link is clearly angling to plant its flag before rivals catch up. Whether the real-world gains justify jumping in on day one will come down to how much your current network struggles under load — but on paper, this pair looks purpose-built for the increasingly crowded connected home.
