The Blood of Dawnwalker, the vampire RPG from Rebel Wolves published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, launched on September 3, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at US$69.99 — and one of its most distinctive ideas isn’t a skill tree at all. It’s a court ledger. Progression in this dark fantasy tale is tied to how much trouble the protagonist Coen, a Dawnwalker caught between human and vampire, can stir up at the court of the vampire lord Brencis.
After the prologue, a Court tab appears in the main menu next to the map. It tracks two things: Coen’s current infamy and the anger levels of Brencis’ three vassals — Ambrus, Xanthe and Bakir. Each vassal’s portrait is ringed by small diamonds representing sabotage missions, which show up as question marks until you stumble across the opportunities by exploring the map and completing quests.
Fill a vassal’s anger meter and you unlock a personal quest that digs into their backstory. There is a catch worth underlining: kill a vassal before maxing out their anger and that quest is gone for good, so sparing Brencis’ cronies in the early game can pay off. The quest also won’t simply pop into the journal — the furious Vrakhir will find their own way to contact Coen.
Angering vassals raises Coen’s infamy in parallel, and Brencis answers each new infamy level with edicts such as “additional patrols in settlements” or “military checkpoints appear throughout the valley.” Getting notorious too early makes life genuinely harder, which is why mixing regular quests between sabotage runs is a sensible rhythm. The payoff comes at the notorious infamy level, which opens the door to the Manumits, the anti-Vrakhir rebellion: Brencis turns more aggressive, but Coen gains new means to oppose him.
A few practical takeaways for working the system:
- Regular quests can also raise anger and infamy when their outcome hurts Brencis or his vassals, but direct sabotage is much faster.
- You don’t need every sabotage mission to max a vassal’s anger — varying mission types, like hitting a leech collector camp, intercepting a blood transport and clearing a blood cellar, keeps things fresh.
- Focus on one court member at a time if you want their personal quest sooner.
- Ambrus is the easiest target: he controls the least dangerous regions, such as Briar Sloughs and Maragir Wealds. Yellow, orange and red skulls next to region names on the map flag how risky an area is for your level.
- The whole thing is optional — bothering the Vrakhiri brings extra quests, but also a more hostile Brencis.
Set in Vale Sangora, a valley in the Carpathian Mountains of 14th-century Europe, and built on Unreal Engine 5, The Blood of Dawnwalker is a time-sensitive, narrative-driven RPG where choices carry real consequences. Beyond the standard edition, an Eclipse Edition bundles the game with a digital world compendium, soundtrack and comic book.
