Samsung R95H. A Micro RGB flagship that loses to its own OLED sibling
SHARE

2026 has become the year of RGB Mini LED, and Samsung’s answer is the R95H, the brand’s flagship “Micro RGB” TV for 2026. On paper it is the backlit twin of the S99H QD-OLED: same price tier, same feature-rich Tizen platform, and a pitch that buyers at the top end can simply pick their side. In What Hi-Fi?’s review of the 65-inch model, published on September 25, 2026, that pitch did not hold up.

What makes it Micro RGB

Samsung’s twist on RGB Mini LED is LED size. The company says its red, green and blue LEDs measure under 100 microns, roughly the width of a human hair, which lets it pack them more densely into the backlight. In theory that should mean finer local dimming. In practice, What Hi-Fi? counted 1344 dimming zones on its 65-inch sample, fewer than the 1530 it counted on the 65-inch Sony Bravia 9 II.

Key specs of the tested 65-inch model:

  • LCD (VA) panel, 4K resolution, RGB Mini LED backlight
  • Also available in 75 and 85 inches
  • HDR: HLG, HDR10, HDR10+, HDR10+ Advanced, HDR10+ Gaming; no Dolby Vision
  • Four 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs; 4K/165Hz, VRR, ALLM; eARC
  • 70W 4.2.2-channel sound system with Dolby Atmos and Eclipsa Audio support
  • Micro RGB AI Engine Pro processor, Tizen OS
  • Dimensions without stand: 83 x 144 x 3cm

Price and model codes

The 65-inch set is sold as MRE65R95H in the UK and MRN65R95H in the US. What Hi-Fi? lists its launch price as £3299, and Samsung’s US store lists it at $3,199.99. The S99H OLED launched at the same £3299 in the UK, which shows how directly Samsung pits the two against each other.

Design

The R95H is only 3cm thick and has a flat back that makes wall-mounting easy. The central pedestal uses a reflective panel to make the screen appear to float, and it clicks onto the chassis without a screwdriver. It can only be set at one height, though that height suits a soundbar. The remotes let it down: Samsung still bundles the familiar two-remote set with no backlit buttons, although the USB-C charging and solar panel are welcome.

Picture and sound

There are real strengths. Black levels are impressive for a backlit set, blooming is well controlled, and colours come across slightly more subtle and natural than on the S99H. In Standard or Vivid mode the R95H can also out-shine its OLED sibling. In the Movie and Filmmaker Mode presets the reviewers actually recommend, though, the picture looks flat and dull. Highlights lack punch, motion smears in panning shots, and scenes from Oppenheimer, The Matrix and Civil War looked clearly better on the S99H.

Sound is a step back too. Heavy bass sequences in Blade Runner 2049 quickly turn distorted and mushy, the midrange sounds recessed, and even at full volume the TV is easy to talk over.

Verdict

What Hi-Fi? scored the R95H 3 for picture, 3 for sound and 5 for features. It concluded that the TV isn’t even the best RGB Mini LED model available, a title it currently gives to the Sony Bravia 9 II. For now, Samsung’s most convincing flagship remains its OLED.
