Wedding videographers chase the vows, the first dance and the speeches. The footage that went viral from Emily and Josh’s wedding came from a crew member who stands about knee-high and works for treats: Swayze, a 9-year-old sheepadoodle with a GoPro strapped to his harness.
As PetaPixel reported on October 6, 2026, the Wisconsin couple sent Swayze out during cocktail hour with the action camera on his back. He wandered from guest to guest, and the result is a low-angle, slightly wobbly, very happy view of people lighting up as a fluffy dog trots over to say hello.
A roving canine cam
Emily told The Dodo that the couple always wanted Swayze to have a role on the big day. When she found out you can mount a GoPro on a dog’s harness, she knew she wanted a roving canine cam. Their videographer, Sebastian of Motion Capture Productions, did the technical part. He rigged the camera to Swayze’s harness, started recording and turned the dog loose among the guests.
The reasoning was practical as well as sentimental. “We knew we’d be pretty busy and probably couldn’t give a proper hello to every guest,” Emily wrote on Instagram, “luckily we know a guy who would be a star at greeting everyone and making them feel special!”
236,000 likes and counting
The first clip, captioned “Swayze cocktail hour cam,” got more than 236,000 likes on Instagram. Emily called it “probably one of the best ideas we had for the wedding.” Viewers wanted more, so she posted a part two and a part three.
Emily says the footage is a mix of funny, cinematic and personal moments. “It was so sweet to see his POV,” she said. “He caught such funny moments, some cinematic, and some that I’ll cherish forever with my grandma, who recently turned 91.”
Why this works on camera
A dog cam is a good example of what action cameras do best. They’re small, tough and wide-angle, and they record for long stretches with nobody holding them. A human videographer moving through a crowd makes people pose. A dog makes them crouch, grin and reach out, which is the kind of unguarded reaction wedding films usually miss.
GoPro has had pet footage in mind for a long time. In 2014 it launched Fetch, a dedicated dog harness that holds a camera on the dog’s back or chest and fits dogs from 15–200 lbs. The source doesn’t say which camera or harness Swayze wore, but the idea is the same: put the lens at dog height and let the dog direct.
- Camera operator: Swayze, 9-year-old sheepadoodle
- Shoot: cocktail hour, GoPro mounted on his harness
- Rigging: Sebastian, Motion Capture Productions
- Reach: 236,000+ Instagram likes on the first clip, plus two follow-up videos
Emily summed it up: “We knew we didn’t get to spend quality time with every guest, but Swayze made sure to say hello to everyone, and everyone made sure to say hello to Swayze.”
