Wandrd Magnetic Camera Strap. Snap on, click off, shoot faster

Anyone who has juggled two camera bodies at an event knows the awkward dance: unclipping one strap, fumbling with the next, all while missing the shot. Wandrd’s new magnetic camera strap system aims to kill that ritual, letting you attach, swap, and drop a camera in a heartbeat — with a hold that’s tougher than the usual clasp.

The heart of the setup is a dual-sided, spring-loaded lock Wandrd calls the Magnetic CoreLock, paired with magnetic Torus Links. The magnets pull the connection into place, and the spring-loaded mechanism snaps it shut, so the camera isn’t hanging on magnetism alone — a reassuring detail for anyone nervous about trusting expensive glass to a magnet. The link hardware is built from fiberglass-reinforced nylon, while the strap itself uses liquid nylon for a softer touch against the neck.

Wandrd offers three flavors to match your kit. The full-size neck strap runs a 30mm width for heavier bodies and telephoto rigs, while a slimmer 15mm option targets compact and mirrorless setups that don’t need the extra bulk. Rounding out the lineup is a wrist strap for run-and-gun shooting where a neck strap just gets in the way.

The clever part is how the links scale across cameras. Each neck strap ships with four Torus Links, enough to outfit two camera bodies — meaning you can leave a pair of links permanently mounted and hot-swap between them without re-threading anything. The wrist strap comes with two Torus Links, again covering two cameras. If you’d rather retrofit a strap you already own, there’s a DIY conversion kit.

Pricing lands as follows:

  • Standard neck strap (30mm): $69
  • Narrower strap (15mm): $49
  • Wrist strap: $39
  • DIY conversion kit: $29
  • Bundle of all three straps: $157

The system first launched via Kickstarter and Wandrd’s own website, the path the company favors for getting new gear into early adopters’ hands before it hits the shelves. A broader retail launch is set for November 7, so shooters who don’t want to wait can grab it directly for now.

What makes the magnetic approach compelling isn’t just speed — it’s the reduction of friction in a workflow. Photographers who swap between a wide-angle body and a long lens mid-shoot lose seconds every time they detach a traditional strap, and those seconds add up during a wedding, a match, or a wildlife sit. By baking the connection into a magnet-guided, spring-locked link, Wandrd is betting that the security concerns that usually kill magnetic accessories won’t apply here.

It’s a small piece of kit, but the kind that quietly changes how you carry gear all day.
