Apple Music. The streaming service just got pricier for the first time in years

If your Apple Music bill looked a little heavier this month, you weren’t imagining things. On July 17, 2026, Apple pushed through price increases across Apple Music and several Apple One bundles, and those changes are already in effect today.

In the US, the individual Apple Music plan now costs US$11.99/month, up from US$10.99. The family plan jumps to US$19.99/month from US$16.99, while the student plan climbs to US$6.99/month from US$5.99. It’s a modest bump on paper, but notable timing-wise: this is the first Apple Music price increase in almost four years.

Apple pinned the blame on the usual suspect. “As a result of rising licensing costs, Apple Music is increasing its…” the company said — a familiar refrain in an industry where the cut owed to labels and rights holders keeps creeping upward.

The bundled Apple One tiers didn’t escape either, though the hit is uneven:

  • Individual plan — unchanged at US$19.95/month
  • Family plan — now US$27.95/month, up from US$25.95
  • Premier plan — now US$39.95/month, up from US$37.95

For anyone who came in for the music and stayed for the ecosystem, it’s worth remembering what you’re actually paying for. Apple Music still bundles access to more than 100 million songs, curated playlists, Apple Music Radio, music videos, synced lyrics, and — the audiophile draws — Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos plus lossless audio. Offline downloads and personalized recommendations round out the package.

Apple One, meanwhile, folds Apple Music together with Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+. Step up to the Premier tier and, in supported regions, you also get Apple News+ and Apple Fitness+. The individual plan holding steady at US$19.95 makes it the odd one out here — a small mercy for solo subscribers who don’t need the family-sized storage and shared access.

Whether the increase nudges anyone toward the exits is another question. Streaming subscriptions have quietly become the utility bills of the digital age, and a dollar here or two dollars there rarely triggers a mass exodus — which is precisely why every major platform keeps testing the ceiling. Apple’s four-year restraint on Apple Music pricing was arguably the anomaly, not the correction.

If you’re on a plan that went up, the change applies automatically at your next billing cycle. It might be a good moment to audit exactly how much of your Apple One bundle you’re actually using — and whether that Premier tier still earns its keep.
