Unitree AS2-W. The Nvidia-powered robot wolf that hauls its own weight sixfold
SHARE

Meet the Unitree Super Athlete AS2-W, a quad-wheel robotic vehicle that Chinese robotics firm Unitree pulled the covers off on July 24, 2026. Nicknamed the ‘robot wolf’, it landed just weeks after an armed variant reportedly showed up in joint military drills in Mongolia — which tells you plenty about the kind of attention this machine is drawing.

The AS2-W is a study in disproportion. It tips the scales at just 25 kg, yet it can shoulder a 150 kg payload while stationary — six times its own mass. That’s the sort of ratio that makes it useful hauling gear across terrain no wheeled cart would dare.

And terrain is exactly where this thing lives. Using industrial-grade joint modules, the AS2-W clears obstacles up to 80 cm high and tackles slopes of up to 45° without anyone reaching for a controller. It sprints at speeds exceeding 6 m/s, so it won’t be left behind on the trail.

Range is respectable for something so compact. On a single charge the AS2-W covers roughly 30 km unloaded, dropping to about 25 km with a 16 kg payload. Power comes from a 648 Wh, 15,000 mAh battery good for more than three hours of unloaded operation.

The brains are where things get serious. At the core sits a high-performance Nvidia-powered AI module rated at 150 TOPS (trillion operations per second), enough to chew through the sensor feed in real time. And there’s plenty of feed to chew: the robot carries a 64- to 128-line LiDAR, an HD camera, GPS, microphones, speakers and front lighting for low-light work.

Connectivity is equally loaded. The AS2-W speaks Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and 4G, so it can stay linked whether it’s roaming a warehouse floor or a remote hillside far from any network.

Put the pieces together and you get a platform that reads as much like a logistics mule as a military asset — which is precisely why its armed twin’s appearance in Mongolia has people talking. The autonomy that lets it scramble over rubble and climb slopes untethered is the same autonomy that makes it a natural fit for hazardous, human-free tasks.

Pricing lands at US$36,700. As of now the AS2-W isn’t yet on general sale — it’s still in the pre-order and pending-release phase — but the specs are already out in the open, and they’re the kind that blur the line between industrial tool and something considerably more pointed.
