The most heartwarming underdog story on Apple TV+ is back, and it’s arriving with a very different roster. Ted Lasso season 4 premieres on Tuesday, August 5, 2026, and if you’re expecting the same AFC Richmond lineup that carried the first three seasons, brace yourself — this is less a continuation and more a soft reboot.
The two biggest shifts are impossible to miss, and both change the DNA of the show.
1. A new team, a new cast — and some painful goodbyes
The core you love is still intact: Ted, Rebecca, Keeley, Roy, and Coach Beard all return. But the story now revolves around a women’s team, the Lady Greyhounds, and that pivot brings a wave of fresh faces.

Nick Mohammed, who played Nate across seasons 1 through 3, may resurface in some form, but nothing has been confirmed.
2. A behind-the-scenes course correction
Here’s the part fans have been quietly hoping for. Season 3 landed unevenly with many viewers, and there’s a widely shared explanation: co-creator Bill Lawrence — the mind behind Shrinking, Bad Monkey, Scrubs, and HBO’s Rooster — had virtually no involvement that year, after being deeply hands-on for the first two.
For season 4, Apple recruited Jack Burditt, whose résumé includes sitcom heavyweights like 30 Rock and Modern Family. Burditt had reportedly sworn off being a showrunner-for-hire, but sharing the load with Jason Sudeikis made the job appealing. The division of labor sounds refreshingly clear-eyed.
As Burditt told The Hollywood Reporter, Sudeikis framed it perfectly: “He was like, ‘I need someone to put up the walls, and I’ll hang the art.'” In practice, that means Burditt keeps the production on budget and on schedule while Sudeikis stays the creative engine. Burditt also co-ran the writers’ room this season.
Early word suggests it worked — season 4 is being described as a welcome return to form after a wobbly third outing. Whether the Lady Greyhounds can capture the same magic as the original Richmond crew is the big question, but the show clearly isn’t content to coast on nostalgia.
