Money is pouring into counter-drone tech, and Cambridge Aerospace just landed a very large bucket of it. The British defense firm has raised $300 million in fresh funding — a round that arrives only months after its $200 million Series B closed back in April. That kind of back-to-back appetite from investors tells you where the market’s attention is right now: cheap, disposable attack drones, and how to shoot them down without spending a fortune per kill.
That’s exactly the problem Cambridge Aerospace built its flagship around. The Skyhammer is a low-cost interceptor missile designed to counter one-way attack drones — the Shahed-type loitering munitions that have made headlines by overwhelming air defenses through sheer numbers. The economics matter here: sending a million-dollar interceptor after a cheap kamikaze drone is a losing trade. Skyhammer flips that math with a unit price of £30,000 ($40,500).
The specs are tuned for the job rather than for glossy brochures. Skyhammer has a range of 18.6 miles (approximately 30 km) and a maximum speed of 435 mph (approximately 700 km/h) — fast enough to run down slow, low-flying attack drones and reach out before they hit their targets.
This isn’t a lab prototype either. Skyhammer entered rapid deployment with the UK Armed Forces and Gulf partners in April 2026, and it is already in operational service. Going from development to fielded hardware at that pace is unusual in defense procurement, and it helps explain why the checkbooks have opened so quickly.
Cambridge Aerospace isn’t stopping at one product. The company is building out a broader stack of hardware:
- Starhammer — a rocket-powered missile aimed at high-speed threats such as ballistic missiles, expected to come to market in 2027.
- Looking Glass — a radar system to handle detection and tracking.
- Nightstar — a solid rocket motor developed in-house.
That vertical spread — sensor, motor, and interceptor under one roof — is the kind of thing that gets investors excited, because it reduces dependence on outside suppliers and lets the company control cost from radar to warhead. With Skyhammer already handling the drone-swarm problem and Starhammer targeting faster, harder threats next year, Cambridge Aerospace is positioning itself as a full-spectrum air defense player rather than a one-trick startup.
The fundraising cadence is the real headline. Two nine-figure rounds inside a single year, for a company already shipping product to armed forces, signals a bet that affordable interception is about to become a core layer of modern air defense — and that whoever nails the cost curve first stands to sell an awful lot of missiles.
