It handles performance and photography with more polish than several rivals at the same money — but the headline, once you actually live with it, is battery life.
Under the hood sits a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Apex chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. That’s a genuinely capable combination for an affordable handset, and it shows in day-to-day snappiness — app launches, multitasking and general navigation feel far removed from the sluggishness that used to define this bracket.
The screen is a 6.77-inch AMOLED panel running at a 120Hz refresh rate with an FHD+ resolution (1080×2392). Scrolling is fluid, and AMOLED means the blacks are properly black rather than the murky grey you sometimes get on cheaper LCDs.
Photography is the second pleasant shock. The main sensor is a 50MP Sony camera with OIS, backed by an 8MP ultra-wide and a 16MP selfie camera. Optical stabilisation on the main lens does a lot of heavy lifting, keeping shots sharp in low light and steadying video without you having to think about it — a feature that’s still not a given at this price.
And then there’s the stamina. Battery capacity depends on where you buy it: the Indian model packs a substantial 7,100mAh cell, while Europe and the UK get a 5,200mAh version. Either way, real-world use is where the CE5 pulls ahead. The idea of getting blindsided by an empty battery mid-afternoon simply doesn’t apply here — this is a phone you can push hard and still find breathing room by bedtime.
When you do need to top up, all regions get 80W fast charging, so a flat battery becomes usable again in the time it takes to shower and grab a coffee.
The value equation seals the deal. The Nord CE5 5G was announced in July 2025 and went on sale in the UK at launch, priced at £299 (~$405) for the 8GB/128GB variant, with a starting price of €299.
Put it all together — a strong chipset, a crisp high-refresh AMOLED, a stabilised Sony main camera and battery life that genuinely lasts — and the OnePlus Nord CE5 5G makes a compelling case as one of the smarter buys in the affordable class. It’s the rare mid-ranger where the least glamorous spec on the sheet turns out to be the one you appreciate most.
