Every photographer who has ever wrestled a pile of light stands, sandbags and cases across a parking lot knows the pain: getting your gear to the shoot is only half the battle, and once you’re there the wagon just sits in the corner taking up space. Westcott’s Photography Wagon tries to end that redundancy by being two tools in one.
The headline trick is a patent-pending boom pole mounting system. Instead of just hauling your kit, the Wagon can act as a rolling light stand or tripod, letting you clamp a light or camera directly to the cart itself. The boom pole extends from 3 feet 6 inches (107 cm) to 7 feet 8 inches (230 cm) and carries equipment loads of up to 13 lbs (5.9 kg) — enough for a decent strobe, a monolight modifier or a modest camera rig.
Mounting flexibility comes from a reversible 1/4″-20 to 3/8″-16 spigot with an integrated 90-degree receiver, so you can position gear vertically overhead or swing it out horizontally for boom-style lighting. It’s a genuinely clever bit of engineering that turns dead weight into a working piece of grip equipment.
As a hauler, the Wagon doesn’t skimp either. It swallows up to 175 lbs (79.4 kg) of cargo, which is more than most photographers will ever pile into it. Deployed, it measures 37 inches (94 cm) long × 19.25 inches (48.9 cm) tall × 19.25 inches (48.9 cm) wide, wheels included. When the shoot’s over it collapses down to 29 × 19.2 × 8.5 inches (73.7 × 48.8 × 21.6 cm) to slide into a trunk or storage closet.
The trade-off for all that capacity and hardware is heft: the Wagon itself weighs 24 lbs (10.9 kg). That’s not featherweight, but for a cart engineered to double as a load-bearing stand, some structural rigidity is the whole point — you don’t want your key light wobbling on a flimsy frame.
Practically speaking, the appeal is obvious for anyone working on location: fewer separate stands to pack, one item that transports and supports gear, and a footprint that folds away when it’s done. Studio shooters may find it just as handy for shuttling equipment between sets and then pressing it into service as an impromptu light rig.
