The DMP-A8 Gen 2 keeps the same streaming brains but leaves the disc mechanism at home.
Both machines were unveiled in June 2026 at HIGH END Vienna 2026, and both went on sale in August 2026. The plain DMP-A8 Gen 2 costs US$1,980, while the CD-toting DMP-A8 Master Edition Gen 2 lands at US$2,580 — a US$600 premium that buys you rather more than just a slot for discs.
Start with what they share. Up front sits a new 8.6-inch artistic display driving an all-new UI system, which is the part you’ll actually live with day to day. Under the hood, Eversolo pairs an AK4191EQ digital processor with an AK4499EXEQ DAC — a serious combination that handles PCM up to 768kHz/32bit and DSD up to DSD 512. In plain terms, whatever high-res file you throw at it, this thing is ready.
The differences go beyond the CD tray. The Master Edition Gen 2 adds an oven-controlled crystal oscillator clock and a 10 MHz external clock input, so obsessive listeners can chase lower jitter and hang an even better reference clock off the back. Combine that with the built-in top-loading transport and the Master version becomes a genuine all-in-one hub: rip, stream, download and spin discs from a single chassis.
There’s a physical size difference to match the extra hardware. The standard DMP-A8 Gen 2 measures 388 mm × 265 mm × 88 mm (L × W × H), while the Master Edition Gen 2 stands taller at 388 mm × 265 mm × 98.5 mm to accommodate the CD mechanism and clock circuitry. Same footprint, a touch more height.
What’s clever here is the framing. Rather than forcing a choice between a network streamer and a CD player, Eversolo effectively sells you the same source component twice — once for the streaming purists and once for the people who still buy albums on disc and want them treated as first-class citizens in a modern library.
