Snake never had to worry about a litter box, but your cat might soon be infiltrating the hallway from inside a very familiar cardboard fortress. Konami is launching a Metal Gear-themed cat toy collection, and it’s landing at CatCon 2026.
The event takes place at the Pasadena Convention Center on October 10-11, 2026, and the collection leans hard into the series’ most iconic sight gag. Yes, there are cat scratch boxes modeled after the cardboard boxes used by Big Boss and Old Snake for stealth and infiltration. If your cat already treats every empty Amazon box as a tactical hideout, this is essentially official-issue equipment.
Beyond the boxes, the lineup includes:
- Scratch boxes shaped like the legendary Metal Gear cardboard box — the ultimate feline camouflage
- Plushie pet toys for batting, pouncing and general chaos
- Cat collars inspired by Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
It’s a smart bit of crossover marketing. The cardboard box is one of gaming’s most enduring visual jokes, a running gag that stretches across decades of Solid Snake’s career, and repurposing it as cat furniture is the kind of self-aware move the franchise has always embraced.
There is a catch for collectors and completists, though. These items aren’t heading to a general online store. They’ll be available for purchase only during the event days, through the KONAMI booth and the OKS GEAR SHOP. That makes them exclusive show merchandise, so anyone hoping to kit out their cat as a stealth operative will need to be on the ground in Pasadena.
Konami hasn’t shared pricing for the collection, and there’s no word yet on whether any of the gear might resurface for buyers who can’t attend. For now, the plan is strictly on-site: two days, one convention center, and a booth full of tactical cat equipment.
Whether your cat appreciates the deep-cut references is another matter entirely — but a scratch box shaped like Snake’s cardboard box will look right at home in any Metal Gear fan’s household, and the cat will treat it exactly as intended.
