Dali reckons the compact hi-fi revival needs a proper low-end companion, and the Basik Sub is its answer. Pitched as a “natural partner” for the brand’s Kupid and Sonik 1 standmounters, it’s built to slot into small rooms and modest streaming setups without dominating the furniture.
At the heart of it sits a 20cm (8-inch) downward-firing woofer with a paper-pulp diaphragm. Dali claims the material combines low mass with rigidity for detailed low-frequency performance, and the downward-firing layout is meant to spread bass more evenly around the room while giving you more freedom over placement. Handy, given that not every listening space has an obvious corner to hide a sub in.
Power comes from a Class D amplifier delivering 170W RMS with a 220W peak — enough headroom for those enthusiastic moments without the driver flinching. A dual-stage limiter keeps things in check when the volume climbs, a vented voice-coil helps with cooling and reduces air compression at high levels, and a switch-mode power supply manages consumption and heat.
Connectivity covers both camps: a stereo line-in for hi-fi systems and a mono LFE input for home cinema duty. Onboard controls include gain, phase adjustment across 0 to 180 degrees and a crossover that sweeps from 40Hz to 120Hz, so dialling it in to match your speakers should be relatively painless.
Crucially, the enclosure stays modest at 31.9 x 29.5 x 31 cm (hwd), small enough to tuck into a compact setup rather than commanding a whole corner of the room.
The logic behind the launch is straightforward. As Dali’s head of product management Krestian Pedersen points out, affordable streaming amps and turntables have made it easy to build a custom hi-fi system “for the price of a smartphone” — and most of those streaming amps already include a subwoofer output with bass management. The Basik Sub is designed to plug into exactly that ecosystem and, in Dali’s words, deliver “the full scale and bandwidth from a compact and interior-friendly package.”
The Dali Basik Sub goes on sale in October 2026 for US$800 / £429 / €500, with a spread of finishes to match different interiors: Solid Black, Solid White, Caramel White, Golden Yellow and Chilly Blue.
