Marten Parker Duo Diamond Edition. A small Swedish box that humbles giants

Sweden’s Marten has pulled off something that shouldn’t really work. The Parker Duo Diamond Edition is a two-way standmount just 42cm tall, yet it competes in a high-end sector ruled by intimidatingly muscular floorstanders — and, by What Hi-Fi’s account, it holds its own. The magazine’s review, published on 2 September 2026, awarded the speaker a full five stars and called it “a true endgame speaker”. It was tested at £22,995 / $35,000 per pair.

Remarkably, the Duo sits on one of the lower rungs of Marten’s range ladder. The company names its series after jazz greats — Coltrane, Mingus, Parker — and Parker is merely the step-up line. The speaker comes in two forms: the standard Parker Duo (£11,995 / $19,000) pairs a 25mm ceramic tweeter with a 19cm ceramic mid/bass driver, while the Diamond Edition swaps the tweeter for a diamond dome, upgrades the crossover’s polypropylene capacitors to exotic copper-foil types and fits improved internal wiring — Jorma Statement cable, according to Marten. Everything else carries over, including the rear-firing 23cm aluminium passive radiator that tunes the bass and a 2200Hz crossover point.

  • Drivers: 25mm diamond tweeter, 19cm ceramic mid/bass, 23cm aluminium passive radiator
  • Sensitivity: 88dB; nominal impedance 6 ohms, dipping to 3.1 ohms — a muscular amplifier is advised
  • Claimed bass extension: down to 36Hz ±2dB
  • Dimensions and weight: 42 x 22-28 x 36cm, 18kg
  • Finishes: matte walnut, piano black, piano white, piano walnut

The cabinet is as unconventional as the price. The front panel is 6cm narrower than the rear, a taper that reduces internal standing waves, and the panels are cut from 35mm-thick M-Board, Marten’s proprietary laminate claimed to be more rigid and inert than conventional materials. Not everyone on the test team loved the styling or the fixed metal grilles, but the reviewers found the build immaculate, with a gloss black finish described as deep and mirror-like. One catch: the dedicated stands — three rigid pillars, a thick steel base and isolator feet co-developed with IsoAcoustics — cost £3295 / $5000 per pair, and What Hi-Fi considers them an essential part of the deal.

Driven by a Burmester 088/911 MkIII pre/power combination and benchmarked against the ATC SCM50 and PMC MB2 SE, the little Martens delivered richer, punchier bass than the appreciably larger ATCs with broadly comparable extension. The testers praised a rare mix of neutrality and natural warmth, top-class dynamics and genuine rhythmic drive, with deep, articulate lows far beyond what the cabinet size suggests. The scorecard read Sound 5, Build 5, Compatibility 4 — that last mark reflecting the need for careful system matching.

The caveats are predictable: the speakers demand a top-class system, the essential stands add a hefty sum, and the price puts them beyond most listeners. But for the lucky few, What Hi-Fi’s advice was unambiguous — book a serious audition.
