Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 17 5G in India, and the local version carries one genuine advantage over the phone the rest of the world received: a bigger battery. The India-bound model packs a 7,900mAh silicon-carbon cell, up from the 7,500mAh unit inside the global variant that was announced on August 10, 2026. Everything else — design, specifications, the lot — is unchanged, but for a device whose entire pitch is endurance, those extra 400mAh are the headline.
Charging is handled at 45W over a wire, and the phone can also share its considerable reserves with other gadgets via 22.5W reverse charging. According to GSMArena’s figures, a full charge takes 96 minutes, with 51% arriving in the first 40 — not bad at all for a cell this size.
The rest of the spec sheet is a carbon copy of the global model. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 runs the show — a 4nm chip aimed squarely at the entry level, which paired with a battery this size should at least be frugal. It comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, and Xiaomi has kept the microSD card slot for anyone who needs more room.
Up front sits a 6.9-inch LCD with an HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Stretching HD+ resolution across nearly seven inches won’t win any sharpness awards, but the smooth refresh rate and sheer screen real estate fit the big-battery brief.
Photography is kept modest: a 50MP main camera on the back joined by an auxiliary lens, plus an 8MP selfie shooter up front. The remaining essentials are all present:

- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- GPS
The Redmi 17 5G comes to India in Absolute Black, Eternal Orange and Endless Blue, in 6GB/128GB and 8GB/128GB configurations, with sales starting September 10, 2026. When a phone’s headline number is its battery capacity, handing one market an extra 400mAh is as clear a statement of priorities as spec sheets get — Xiaomi evidently knows exactly which spec sells in this segment.
