Rugged phones normally fight over drop ratings and battery size. RugOne, a brand under Ulefone, showed up at IFA Berlin 2026 with a different argument: the Xsnap 7 Pro keeps a cube-shaped action camera docked in its back panel, and that camera comes out.
The module weighs 39 grams and snaps back on magnetically, so pulling it off takes one hand. Detached, it is a standalone camera you can stick to a helmet, a bike or the supplied magnet pendant, and it works with universal mounts. It is waterproof to 5 meters with no extra housing, which is more than most action cams manage naked.
What the module actually shoots:
- 2.7K video at 30fps (2560 x 1440) with a 133-degree field of view, off a Type 1/2.7 sensor
- 64GB of built-in storage, so it keeps rolling with the phone nowhere near
- Up to 40 minutes of recording per charge, then it refuels from the phone once docked
- Horizon lock and stabilization, plus timelapse and HDR photo modes
- Remote monitoring and control from up to 50 meters through the Xsnap Go app
The phone half is no afterthought. It runs a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 5G chipset with 512GB of storage under Android 16, behind a 6.67-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel rated at 1,700 nits peak brightness and 120Hz, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Its own optics are a 50-megapixel main camera on a Samsung GN9 sensor with optical stabilization, joined by a 64-megapixel infrared night-vision camera built around an OV64B1B sensor and backed by dedicated IR LEDs.
Toughness is where the rest of the spec sheet lives: IP68 and IP69K ratings, 30 minutes of submersion in two meters of water, and survival of 1.5-meter drops onto concrete. Two finishes were shown, Classic Black and Sand Dune.
Buying one starts on Kickstarter on September 7, 2026, where super early-bird pricing begins at €799. Retail follows in October 2026, when the Xsnap 7 Pro lands in the US at $999.
The concept already has hardware on the wall to show for it. RugOne says the Xsnap 7 Pro took the IFA Innovation Award 2026 for pioneering “the world’s first rugged smartphone featuring a detachable modular action camera,” with the presentation set for September 4, 2026 at 14:30 CEST on the IFA Innovation Stage. IFA Berlin 2026 runs September 4-8 at the Berlin ExpoCenter City, where RugOne is in Hall 3.2, Stand 137. The brand has form here: it used IFA in 2025 to launch its Xever 7 series of rugged phones.
