Every year a new crop of robotics companies crawls out of university labs, accelerators and rented industrial units, and every year most of them hit the same wall: outside their own funding circle, nobody knows they exist. The Robot Report has reopened its annual attempt to fix that. Submissions for the 2026 Robotics Startup Radar opened on September 4, 2026, and the deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026.
The Startup Radar is an editorial roundup rather than a pitch contest — no stage, no timer, no judging panel throwing scores at a slide deck. Companies fill in a form, the publication’s editorial team reads through the entries, and the ones that make the cut land on a published list. The previous edition ran to 100 promising robotics startups, spanning everything from autonomous mobility and humanoid design to industrial automation.
The entry bar is deliberately narrow in one dimension and wide open in every other. A company has to be five years or younger. Beyond that, The Robot Report says it is looking for novel full systems, enabling technologies, or business approaches — and the target industry or application does not matter. A team building a complete warehouse robot competes for attention alongside one selling a better actuator, a perception stack, or a rethought commercial model such as robotics-as-a-service.
The submission form is where the exercise gets interesting, because it asks for the things founders often skip in a press release:
- Startup name, website and location
- Founder names and founding year
- Employee count and funding information
- A technology description of roughly 300 words
- Customer and pilot details
- Up to three target markets, chosen from a supplied list
- Product images and demonstration videos
- Components the company is looking to source from off-the-shelf providers
That last field is the quiet tell. Asking which off-the-shelf parts a startup still needs turns the questionnaire into something closer to a supply-chain survey — a snapshot of where young robotics companies are hitting shortages in motors, gearboxes, sensors and compute. It also explains the backing: the 2026 Robotics Startup Radar is sponsored by Maxon Precision Motors and PTC, a motor specialist and a design-software vendor, both of whom have an obvious interest in knowing what the next wave of builders is shopping for.
The publication is blunt about the odds. Its editorial team will consider each entry after the deadline passes, but as the announcement puts it, submitting does not guarantee a startup a spot on the final list. For a five-person team with a working prototype and no marketing budget, though, a form and a few hundred words is a cheap ticket to being seen by the investors, engineers and founders who read it.
