Sky Go has finally caught up with the screens it borrows from. On Tuesday 8 September 2026, Sky launched a rebuilt version of its mobile app for Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers, pairing a redesigned interface with the upgrade subscribers have wanted longest: full HD.
Resolution is the headline. Sky Go has gone from 720p to 1080p, and Sky says customers can stream in up to 1080p on compatible devices. The company notes that a supported device and a strong connection are needed, so this is a ceiling rather than a guarantee. On a tablet, though, the jump from 720p should be immediately visible.
The look is new too. The app takes its cues from Sky OS, with a matching colour scheme and familiar navigation, so moving from the TV to a phone no longer feels like switching products. Sky lists simplified navigation across Home, TV Guide, My Library, Sport and Search, while the home screen puts Best of Sky, Movies, TV shows, Sport and Kids within a tap.
My Library replaces the old Downloads tab and is the more interesting change. It gathers shows, films and sport saved to your Playlist at home, recently watched content and downloads in one place, rather than scattering them across the app.
Cross-device continuity gets equal billing. Continue Watching lets you start something on a Sky Glass or Sky Stream box and pick it up on a phone or tablet, and vice versa. Remote recording is also new: set a series, film or sporting event to record from your phone while you are out, and it will be waiting on the TV when you get home. That restores a piece of functionality Sky Q owners had long taken for granted.
The rest of the update fills in the detail work:
- New programme pages with cast and crew information, Rotten Tomatoes scores and related recommendations, plus options to save, record or download
- A parents’ guide added for children’s films
- A dedicated Sport section highlighting live events, upcoming fixtures and anything saved to watch later
- Premier League team following, with your club’s matches and content saved to My Library
“Great entertainment should fit around customers’ lives. Millions of customers already use Sky Go to watch what they love when they’re out and about,” said Carli Kerr, MD of Sky TV & NOW.
Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers can download the app from the App Store and Google Play, and Sky says laptop access is coming. Sky Q customers stay on Sky Go (Q/+). The app is included at no extra cost with a Sky TV subscription, which makes the 1080p upgrade the rare kind that costs nothing to take.
