Console-war point-scoring used to be about resolution charts. In September 2026 it is about a rifle finish that only one audience gets to look at properly.
Activision has attached an Inner Circuit Weapon Blueprint for the M4 assault rifle to every digital pre-order of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Everyone who pre-orders a digital edition gets the gun, fully built and ready at launch. Not everyone gets the same gun.
Pre-order on Xbox Series X|S and the Inner Circuit shows up in a translucent OG Green treatment, presented as a tribute to 25 years of Xbox. The reference is the old see-through console hardware: the transparent shell leaves the weapon’s internal systems on display, so the mechanism itself becomes the decoration rather than a decal layered on top.
Everywhere else, the identical blueprint ships with an alternate mil-spec visual treatment. That list is broader than the usual rival-platform snub, and includes PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, Battle.net and, oddly enough, Xbox on PC. Buying into Microsoft’s ecosystem is not enough. The green plastic is a console reward, not a platform one.
The build underneath the paint is the same across the board:
- 11.5″ Shortline Barrel
- FTAC Dominion Muzzle
- FSS Fireline Grip
- SZ Prima-4 Dot Optic
- ZLR ASP50 Stock
That is a mobility loadout rather than a laser-beam one. The short barrel and the retractable stock are there to improve handling and movement, which points the Inner Circuit at close and mid-range fights, or at a secondary slot next to a sniper rifle. The FTAC Dominion muzzle does the unglamorous work of keeping recoil in check during sustained fire, which matters more on a shortened M4 than it would on a full-length build.
It is a small piece of cosmetic theatre, and it is also a neat one. Weapon blueprints are usually about camo and charms; making the exclusivity structural, so that the platform difference lives in the material rather than in a badge, is a smarter joke than another neon skin. Whether PlayStation owners feel the sting of missing a translucent assault rifle is another question entirely.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is due on October 23, 2026, published by Activision with development led by Treyarch and Raven. Digital pre-orders also carry Early Access to the Open Beta, Campaign Early Access starting October 16, and the Hunter Killer Operator Skin unlocked immediately in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Call of Duty: Warzone. The blueprint itself was detailed on September 9, 2026.
