Koei Tecmo has finally pinned a day on the calendar for its demon-haunted Three Kingdoms sequel. Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember launches on March 4, 2027 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, and it arrives day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The date was revealed on September 15, 2026, alongside something more immediately useful than a trailer: a free Alpha Demo, live on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC from September 15 through September 30, 2026.
That demo is not a sizzle reel. It drops you into the Changban stage — combat, traversal and a boss fight against Wuzhiqi — with the in-progress character creation suite switched on and online co-op for up to three players enabled. Beat Wuzhiqi and the game hands you the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet, which carries over into the full release. Consider it payment for doing Team Ninja’s balance testing.
The pitch is a dark-fantasy reimagining of the Three Kingdoms era, the one with demons and immortality elixirs, and this time the protagonist fights with the power of the phoenix. Mechanically, the sequel keeps the deflect-or-die spine that defined the original but widens the board around it:
- Insight Skills — a new layer of enhanced actions for evasion and counterattack
- Open battlefields recreating famous Three Kingdoms engagements, with war situations that shift as you fight
- Tactical options including flanking, capturing bases, setting traps and recruiting enemy officers to your side
- Chinese martial arts combat that blends offense and defense rather than separating them
Koei Tecmo also says the story is built so newcomers can start here — characters from the first game still matter, but you are not expected to have finished it.
Pricing is already posted. The Standard Edition is US$69.99, and the Digital Deluxe Edition is US$99.99, bundling the Season Pass, a Season Pass bonus armor set, a digital artbook and a digital mini soundtrack. Pre-orders of the Standard Edition include the Creator Goddess Garb set, and buying early — by March 17, 2027, per the PlayStation Store listing — adds the Harvest God Armor set.
On PS5 the game is listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced, with DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support, 16 accessibility features covering customizable controls, visual comfort options and subtitles, plus Remote Play compatibility. Online play requires PlayStation Plus. Development is credited to KOEI TECMO GAMES, with KOEI TECMO AMERICA publishing in North America.
The bar here is set by the original: Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty surpassed over 5 million players worldwide. A sequel that adds aerial combat, open fields and a recruitable officer system is a bigger swing than the usual iterate-and-ship follow-up — and with the alpha running only until September 30, 2026, the earliest verdicts on whether the deflect timing still sings are being formed right now.
