Volumio Primo V3. A tiny streamer with serious hi-res ambitions

Good things come in small packages, and Volumio is betting its Primo V3 proves the point. Announced on July 8, 2026 and already available to buy, this diminutive network streamer and DAC promises to preserve the full fidelity of your music system — bold words for a box this compact.

At the heart of the Primo V3 sits an ESS Sabre 9039Q2M DAC, a converter chip capable of chewing through hi-res files up to 32-bit/384kHz as well as DSD256. That covers just about every high-resolution format an audiophile is likely to throw at it, from studio masters to native DSD downloads.

Volumio has clearly obsessed over keeping the signal clean. A quad core CPU handles the processing muscle, while a linear power supply stage works to suppress the noise and jitter that so often plague digital sources. In a device this size, cramming a linear supply alongside a capable processor is no small feat — and it’s the kind of detail that separates a genuine hi-fi component from a jumped-up media player.

Connectivity is where the Primo V3 flexes hardest. It’s DLNA compliant and carries Roon Ready certification, so it slots neatly into serious streaming ecosystems rather than fighting them. Bluetooth 5.0 is on board for the moments you’d rather just cast from your phone. That breadth means the Primo V3 can act as the digital brain of a system without demanding you rip out whatever you already own.

On the output side, you get both balanced XLR and RCA line level outputs, letting the streamer talk to amplifiers of every persuasion. More intriguingly, those outputs offer eight adjustable voltage levels — a genuinely useful touch for matching the Primo V3 to different downstream gear and taming volume mismatches without resorting to messy workarounds.

The pitch, then, is a full-featured streaming source that doesn’t cut corners on the parts that matter to critical listeners. You’re getting flexible outputs, wide format support and a power design aimed squarely at low noise, all wrapped in a form factor that won’t dominate your rack.

The Volumio Primo V3 is available now, priced at £769 / $1,049 / €849. For anyone building a streaming setup around a proper amplifier and speakers — and unwilling to compromise on resolution — it makes a compelling case as the small box that punches well above its weight.
