Amazon Kindle Scribe (2025). The e-paper notebook that finally feels right
SHARE

Amazon’s third-generation Kindle Scribe has quietly become the reference point for e-paper note-taking, and after living with one, it’s easy to see why. The 2025 edition takes everything that felt slightly compromised about earlier Scribes and sands down the rough edges — starting with the display.

The star here is an 11-inch screen with brighter E Ink, offering a crisp 300 ppi black-and-white panel and up to 100 nits of front-light brightness. That extra glow matters: reading in dim rooms no longer means squinting, and the writing experience feels closer to actual paper than any Scribe before it.

Amazon has also gone on a serious diet. This model is just 5.4mm thin and weighs 400 grams, which makes a genuine difference when you’re holding it one-handed for a long reading session or scribbling notes across a meeting. It charges via USB-C, and battery life is frankly absurd in the best way — up to 12 weeks of reading and three weeks of writing on a charge.

Storage comes in 32GB or 64GB flavours, enough to hold a small library plus a mountain of handwritten notebooks. The Premium pen is included in the box, which is a nice touch given that some rivals treat the stylus as an expensive afterthought.

So what’s the catch? Two things. The taller, larger form factor is superb for documents and note-taking, but it makes the Scribe a little unwieldy compared to a pocketable e-reader — this is a device for a bag, not a jacket pocket. And then there’s the price.

At US$499.99 / £449.99, the Scribe (2025) sits firmly in premium territory. It’s a lot to ask for a monochrome tablet, however polished. The honest verdict: it’s arguably Amazon’s best e-paper note-taking device to date, but the smart move is to wait for it to be discounted rather than paying full sticker.

The rollout has been staggered. The Scribe (2025) was first announced in October 2025 in the US and went on sale there in December 2025. It reached the UK and other select markets in early 2026, and has been available in Australia since mid-2026. As of now, it’s on sale across those regions.

If you’ve been eyeing an e-paper notebook and can stomach the outlay, the third-generation Kindle Scribe delivers a near-flawless blend of reading and writing. Just keep an eye on the price tag — patience will be rewarded.
