Quad has revived the spirit of its beloved early-2000s L Series with two new loudspeakers that aim squarely at the sweet spot between audiophile ambition and real-world budgets. Meet the Elegan 1, a standmount two-way, and the Elegan 2, a floorstanding three-way. Both went on sale on 24 July 2026.
The pricing is the headline everyone will scrutinise: the Elegan 1 lands at £749 / $995 per pair, while the larger Elegan 2 asks £1,499 / $1,995 per pair. Quad describes these as “spiritual successors” to the L Series, and the brief is refreshingly clear — high-end performance without the high-end tax.
At the heart of both models is Quad’s woven Kevlar driver technology. The cones are formed from lattice-woven Kevlar, a material Quad prizes for its high tensile strength and low weight. The upshot, according to the company, is “precise pistonic behaviour over a wider bandwidth, reducing unwanted resonance and improving midrange clarity.” In plain terms: stiffer cones that flex less and colour the sound less.
The Elegan 1 keeps things focused with a 16.5cm Kevlar mid/bass driver paired with a 25mm fabric-dome tweeter. Quad pitches it at smaller rooms and near-to-mid-field listening — the kind of setup that lives on a bookshelf or a pair of stands close to your chair.
The Elegan 2 is the more serious proposition. This three-way floorstander deploys dual 16.5cm bass drivers, a dedicated 12.5cm midrange driver, and the same 25mm fabric-dome tweeter up top. Every driver except the tweeter uses a woven Kevlar cone, and the midrange sits in its own internal chamber to keep the vocal band clean and, as Quad puts it, full of “clarity and expression.”
Both speakers feature high-frequency waveguides that Quad says “optimises dispersion and supports a smooth transition into the midrange,” alongside a QUAD Airflow port system to keep low frequencies under control. Cabinet engineering gets equal attention: high-density walls, internal bracing and damping materials all work to suppress panel resonance.
You can feel that engineering in the numbers. Each Elegan 1 tips the scales at 8.9kg, while the beefier Elegan 2 weighs a substantial 27.8kg per speaker — reassuring heft that suggests the enclosures aren’t skimping.
Both models are available now in two finishes: deep matte black or walnut wood veneer. Whether the Elegan pair can genuinely deliver flagship-flavoured sound at these prices is a question for the listening room, but Quad has assembled a credible technical case — and a price tag that won’t scare off newcomers to serious hi-fi.
