Nothing’s budget-focused sub-brand CMF has been quietly building a reputation for gadgets that look far pricier than they are, and its next move takes it into fresh territory: open-ear audio. The company has confirmed that the CMF Clip Pro will launch on August 4, 2026, marking its very first pair of OWS earphones.
If you’re new to the acronym, OWS stands for open-wearable stereo. Unlike traditional in-ear buds that plug into your ear canal, these sit just outside it, leaving the ear open to the world around you. The appeal is twofold: you stay aware of your surroundings — handy for runners dodging traffic or office workers who still need to hear a colleague — and many people simply find the fit more comfortable over long stretches. The trade-off is usually a little less isolation and bass punch, though the category has come a long way.
CMF teased the Clip Pro with a short video posted to X on July 31, offering only a fleeting look at the hardware. The name itself hints at a clip-style design that hooks over or around the ear rather than sealing inside it, which would be right at home in the open-ear crowd. Beyond that, the brand is keeping its cards close: no word yet on drivers, battery life, water resistance or price.
What we do know is that CMF rarely plays it safe on design. Its earlier Buds and Neckband ranges leaned into bold accent colours, exposed screws and modular flourishes that made cheaper gear feel genuinely considered. Applying that same eye to an open-ear form factor could produce something that stands out in a segment currently dominated by fairly conservative, look-alike offerings.
The Pro suffix is worth noting too. CMF typically reserves it for its more capable models, which suggests the Clip Pro won’t be a bare-bones first attempt but rather a statement of intent — a signal that CMF wants to be taken seriously in a growing category that already includes efforts from bigger, more established names.
Open-ear buds have quietly become one of the more interesting corners of the audio market, and a value-driven entry from the CMF team could shake up expectations on price. For now, the full picture — specs, colours and, crucially, how much it’ll cost — arrives when the CMF Clip Pro is officially unveiled on August 4.
