Samsung Galaxy H1. The premium over-ear comeback nobody saw coming
SHARE

After more than a decade on the sidelines, Samsung looks ready to charge back into the premium over-ear headphone arena — and this time it’s aiming straight at the two names that dominate that shelf.

The device, currently known only by its codename Galaxy H1, surfaced through the same leak channel that recently teased the Galaxy Buds On, a pair of ear-hook earbuds. This time the icons point to something considerably bigger: a full-size, closed-back headset built to trade blows with the Sony WH-1000XM6 and a rumored Apple AirPods Max 2.

If that sounds ambitious, remember Samsung has done this before. Back in 2014 the company shipped its Level Over headphones — 50mm dynamic drivers, active noise cancellation, touch controls and a genuinely premium build. The Galaxy H1 reads like a spiritual successor, only rebuilt for an ecosystem that now revolves tightly around Galaxy phones, tablets and wearables.

Here’s what the leaks currently point to:

  • Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity, keeping the H1 on the newest wireless standard
  • SSC UHQ codec support for higher-quality audio streaming within Samsung’s own ecosystem
  • Active noise cancellation, a non-negotiable at this tier

Bluetooth 6.0 is the headline here. Beyond the version-number bragging rights, the newer standard promises tighter, lower-latency links and better power efficiency — useful when you’re juggling calls, music and video across multiple Galaxy devices. Pair that with the SSC UHQ codec and you have Samsung quietly building a walled garden of high-resolution audio, the same playbook Apple runs with its own devices.

What we don’t have yet is just as telling. There’s no word on driver size, battery life, transparency modes, spatial audio or, crucially, price. That’s not unusual for a product this early in its life — the H1 isn’t expected to arrive until sometime in 2027, and Samsung has not officially confirmed a single thing about it. For now, this is a codename attached to a set of icons and a short list of plausible specs.

Still, the strategic logic is hard to miss. Samsung already blankets the true-wireless market with its Galaxy Buds line, but the premium over-ear category — where the WH-1000XM6 and AirPods Max sit — has remained a conspicuous gap in its lineup. Slotting a flagship headset in there would let Samsung offer a top-to-bottom audio range that stays entirely inside Galaxy, rather than nudging its own customers toward Sony or Apple every time they want a serious pair of cans.

Whether the finished product lives up to that ambition is another matter. Sony’s noise cancellation and tuning remain the benchmark, and Apple’s tight hardware-software integration is famously hard to beat. But if the Galaxy H1 ships with the connectivity and codec chops these leaks suggest — and a build to match the old Level Over pedigree — Samsung could finally have a horse in a race it walked away from years ago.
