Sigma 14mm F1.4 DG Art. The wide-angle beast gets a new order plan
SHARE

Few lenses have had a rollout as bumpy as the Sigma 14mm F1.4 DG | Art. Sigma is once again reshaping how photographers can actually buy this ultra-wide monster — and this time, the shakeup looks like it could genuinely benefit buyers.

Starting December 1, 2026, Sigma will begin accepting orders for the lens at any time, with shipping set to follow the next month, in January 2027. That’s a meaningful change from the more restrictive availability windows the lens has dealt with in the past. In the meantime, the 14mm F1.4 remains available for both Sony E-mount and L-Mount through authorized retailers such as B&H.

So what makes this piece of glass worth the ongoing drama? It’s a beast in every sense. A 14mm ultra-wide-angle with a jaw-dropping maximum aperture of F1.4, it’s aimed squarely at astrophotographers and anyone who needs to gather light in near-total darkness. That aperture at this focal length is a rare combination, and it’s exactly why this lens has developed such a devoted following.

The optical formula is appropriately ambitious. Sigma packs 19 elements arranged in 15 groups, including:

  • 1 SLD glass element
  • 3 FLD glass elements
  • 4 aspherical lens elements

That exotic mix is engineered to tame the coma, distortion and chromatic aberration that plague fast wide-angle designs — the kind of flaws that turn crisp stars into smeared blobs at the frame edges.

Of course, all that glass adds up. The lens is a genuine heavyweight, tipping the scales at 1,170g / 41.3 oz in L-Mount and 1,160g / 40.9 oz in Sony E-mount. Size-wise it’s equally imposing, measuring 101.4mm x 149.9mm for L-Mount and 101.4mm x 151.9mm for the Sony E-mount version. This is not a lens you toss in a jacket pocket — it’s a tripod-and-intent kind of tool.

Pricing sits at US$1,839, which places it firmly in enthusiast-to-professional territory. Given the specialized nature of an F1.4 ultra-wide, that’s arguably reasonable for the optical engineering on offer, but it’s still a serious investment.

The bigger story here is accessibility. Sigma’s decision to open orders at any time from December, rather than gating them behind narrow purchase periods, should ease the frustration of photographers who’ve watched this lens slip in and out of reach. For a product this niche and this capable, making it easier to buy is exactly the right move — and it suggests Sigma is confident it can keep up with demand once the new system kicks in and shipments begin in January 2027.
